like a 4.999999. omg it was so good; I cried multiple times. I was scared that bc it was so short it would be lacking but it really wasn't. I'm just sad it's the last book in the series.

What a great ending to the series!

Although the style has changed, somewhat less journalistic and containing more direct narration imo, The Dire King is a solid ending to what was a fantastic series. It had a few flaws but none that stood out as glaring to me.

Cover: 3/5 (I like it)

Story: 5/5 (I loved it) -- Entire Series: 5/5

This book was really fun. It had more action than the first three and it brought the overall story together with a satisfying conclusion. I can honestly say that I didn't predict any of the events that happened... well maybe one.

Having said that, this book was bittersweet for me. I knew it was the end of the series and I'm pretty sad it's over. I can't remember the last time I've loved characters so much from a book or book series.

Spoilery Thoughts:
I did not see the whole transferring of powers to Abigail coming! I actually felt kind of bad for her because the description of it all sounded overwhelming. And I was not happy when Charlie died. The 'twain at the end was the one thing I thought would happen and I was hoping would happen. I would have liked to see a happy reunion between the two though. All the battle scenes and characters coming together was just... wow. I loved it. I didn't really care for Charlie's sister, which was kind of disappointing because I just assumed I would like her. But every other character I just loved. I honestly am not sure why I'm being so gushy over them... they were just written really well I guess. I am a person who likes character driven stories so when I have a bunch of characters that I like so much, it is gush-worthy I suppose. I understand why this series came to a close... It is called the Jackaby series after all. But what I'm crossing my fingers for is a spin-off series for Abigail being the Seer. Because I need more of these people! And the way it ended just seemed like it was leaving it open to go in that direction.

Needless to say, I loved this series. I really hope there is a spin-off series in the works, but if not at least I have these books to read over again.

Reread? Absolutely

I cried. Tears of grief, then tears of joy. It was that kind of book. I was in suspense most of the time, and then the action, and the twists. And that ending was *chef's kiss* I really liked this as a last book.

Throughout this entire book, I was ready to give it four stars, just like all the other books in the series, but I did not like the ending at all. There’s not a lot I can say without spoiling things, but the direction that this book took in the last 20 pages was really not for me. I think my main problem is that I just don’t care about Charlie at all. He is the most irrelevant character, and his relationship with Abigail has always felt so forced and awkward. My favorite part of this series is the friendship between Jackaby and Abigail, and wasn’t satisfied with the way their story wrapped up. I also felt like this book was very confusing. There are a lot of magical creatures and different characters introduced in quick succession, and I had a really hard time keeping track of all of them. Overall, I’m disappointed because this could have been so much better.
