I read this one years ago and didn't really remember the details.  I kept seeing it pop up on "best books to read" lists and since I'd just finished the "Starts/Ends with Us" series decided to re-read it. Glad I did.  Such a suspenseful book.  Creepy and fascinating at the same time.  It's one of those "hard to put down" books.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Great book with a lot of suspense and the ending was sooo good! I would advise reading the trigger warnings before starting. I was a little sideswiped and some of the content was a little hard to get through but, book overall was phenomenal!

So, when I started Verity, I was thinking, this isn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I thought, well I guess Colleen Hoover isn’t that bad of a writer. But then about halfway through, I was really struggling to continue. Maybe it’s because I already knew exactly what happened, but it didn’t feel very suspenseful to me?

I’ve recently started reading more mysteries and thrillers and I’m always so elated when I’m not in the loop, when I’m guessing about what happens next. Even knowing the plot of this book, the parts I found shocking weren’t related to the thriller part.
The most shocking part is when Lowen lifts her pelvis up to keep Jeremy’s sperm inside her? A man she’s only just met really?? Yuuuuuck.

This is my latest attempt to try a Hoover book and it will likely be my last. The idea of the book was good but I think the pacing and execution make it unrealistic. The FMC is 32 yet acts like a high schooler in how fast she falls in love with a man she doesn’t know. I feel like if the timeline was spread out more it would make the story more realistic but that’s not the case. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this book.

CW: child abuse, fatphobia, body dysmorphia

It was fine. The plot twist was fine. Seems like a situation that is very preventable, so it is kind of difficult to believe at points. But it's fiction, so you have to suspend your disbelief.
