I really wish that I could've loved this one. It was recommended to me by a friend many years ago and I saw the talking book on the shelf at the library and thought 'why not?'.

The narrator was beautiful and the description of the world was beautiful but this book just wasn't for me.

The audiobook has 16 CD's which worked out to be about 20 hours of listening. I got up to CD 10 and decided to stop, the story wasn't interesting me anymore and I found myself continuously daydreaming and missing lots of the story because I wasn't listening.

I love 'Lord of the Rings' and the book seemed to start off like that and I noticed that many aspects reminded me of it too but there wasn't enough action and storyline to keep me engaged.

I would recommend this book for anyone who is a die hard fan of fantasy but doesn't mind their story to be slow. If you are looking for an epic tale you might find it here after reading all the series but for the most part of book one it wasn't epic at all.

I really wanted to love this... but nothing was grabbing me enough to finish. I may pick it back up later.

This is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. Just beautiful beautiful language, an absolute pleasure to read the descriptions of the world. There’s something just so cozy about it. Most of the story doesn’t really stand out, it’s pretty generic, but I like it because it doesn’t get in the way of what this book really has to offer. It’s more about the journey.

If anyone knows of fantasy books with this kind of descriptive language, please recommend them to me.

My son and I both enjoyed this book. It dragged for us through at least the first half but by the end, we were involved and interested and debating on getting the second one.

Love this series. Has been a long time favorite of mine and I thoroughly enjoy rereading it again. As with Maerad and Cadvan. Music will always be my home.

The first half of the book is quite slow-paced, but then things started to get interesting

I have made it no real secret that I have a long standing and complicated love-hate relationship with Fantasy novels. So it was with some trepidation, I started The Gift or The Naming as the copy I read was titled by Alison Croggon. My main problem with fantasy is Faeries, or The Fey, The People, whatever you want to call them. I’m annoyed by them, light, dark I find them all to be annoying.

Imagine how pleased I was to find a fantasy novel with only the slightest hint of the Faeries. Now I am positive that if I was to continue with this series, it would become just lousy with fairies, that is just how fantasy novels work, but for this one at least, very little fairies, Yeah!

That alone deserves,

3 of 5 stars.
