I tried. I paused my reading and came back to it again and again, thinking that maybe it was just me. And maybe it is, maybe I am not the right person for this book. I am 1/4 of the way thru this book and I feel like NOTHING has happened. I really don't like to dnf a book, but this one is going in that pile.
Thank you to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the eARC of this book. All opinions are mine.

2.5 stars. :/
I gave Stacy another chance with this read because I rated A Flicker in the Dark so poorly due to pure boredom throughout... I really regret that decision.
The writing for this book was HORRIBLE. It was basically the same words, same stories, getting repeated over and over and over again. I was incredibly bored the entire time and the only reason I didn't DNF it is because I knew I could get through it quickly by listening to the audiobook (which was no better). Unfortunately, I won't be giving Stacy another shot with any more of her books :/
I highly recommend NOT reading this book.

Only If You’re Lucky is a great mixture of dark academia and thriller. While this one’s very different from the author’s previous novels I think she slayed it because I was absolutely hooked from the start. The book centers around Margot after the loss of her best friend who tragically died one night at a party. It was ruled and accident, but Margot thinks the boy her friend was seeing may have played a role in her death. Fast forward one year later and Margot is in school studying English when she meets the enigmatic Lucy. Lucy is everything Margot wants to be, so she not only befriends her, but she moves in with her and two other girls as well. What starts as a fun new situation thanks to the frat house next door and all the parties they attend quickly becomes more malevolent when the boy from her past suddenly joins the fraternity. And what happens next will shock readers to the core. The twist is fantastic, unexpected, and brilliant. I didn’t see it coming although I do suspect that some readers will. It may not be completely original but the lead up TO the twist is so I was excited!
One other thing to note about this book is that it’s more of a slow burn, character driven novel. Books like this are not for everyone but I do recommend it because I think the author did an amazing job telling this story.

3.5 stars. Unfortunately, this Willingham book missed the mark for me. I have loved her other books so I expected more. I do realize, it is probably pretty difficult for authors to continually live up to their previous hits... But yeah, I just didnt love it. If you like a slow burn thriller/mystery, you might love this. It is VERY slow burn and not much happens until about 70%. The other thing I did not love about it, was the fact that it felt very YA. I dont think it was adult at all. The main characters are in high school in the past and college in the present.... so, I did not find it to be an adult read. I did enjoy the ending of the book so that bumped my original rating up a quarter star. I feel bad not loving this book more, but I do think there is an audience for it; I just was not it.
