I love a good campus/academia thriller and this hit that mark. The vibes were *immaculate*. I really felt like I could picture the girl's house, Margot's hometown, the island that played host to their party. This could be unique to me: my experiences were very similar in some ways and I think that really helped me envision the settings in my mind.
The twisted relationships between two young women also spoke to some of my experiences: I have felt Margot's pain of feeling like you're in an orbit around a beautiful, outgoing best friend. I think these personal experiences made this novel really shine for me. Your mileage may vary.
The end had the requisite twists you would expect from a Stacy Willingham novel and I left satisfied. There were a few pacing issues throughout the novel as things slowed down, but the ending sped up finished with a bang.
Key Points:
• College/campus setting
• Slow burn
• Toxic friendships
• Flawed, unlikeable characters

It got better at the end but it just felt like it could have been much shorter. That’s not to say the writing itself was bad, it actually ways pretty good. I think I just personally wasn’t invested in the story as much as I have been with her other books.
I didn’t really care to know what happened next but I still wanted to finish it.

After reading two books by Stacy Willingham and loving them, i couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one but I was left feeling a little disappointed. I felt like it was very slow to get into and dragged a lot in the middle without a lot going on. The plot was interesting but it just didn’t grip me as I expected from her other books. Overall an interesting thriller but not my favourite
