First off thanks to netgalley for providing me an ARC!
The setting is Rutledge university where a boy is dead after a fraternity party and a local woman is missing..
Our protagonist, Margot, was suppose to be attending university with her best friend Eliza. However, Eliza died the summer before and now she's alone. Lucy is the campus "IT" girl and reminds Margot of Eliza.
Lucy randomly invites Margot to live with her and a couple other girls in offcampus housing and Margot couldn't say no. It's a bit interesting of a house because it has a shed that leads to a fraternity house and technically the boys own their house too.
The girls become quickly close and Margot confides in them about what happens with Eliza.
Margot then starts getting a bit paranoid with Lucy...she's not exactly who she claims to be.
Holy smokes, this book was good. It definitely kept me on my toes. It switches timelines which helps the book go fast. It does have an unreliable narrator, which I'm typically not a big fan of but this didn't impact the bigger twist.

4.5 rounded up!
I only knocked off the .5 for the slightly slow build up to the core of the suspense part of this whip smart story. Willingham truly seems to get better and better with every novel!
I found this to be even more truly a novel about the complexities and nuances of female friendship, as well as an exploration of morality and its shades of grey. I found the symbolism evoked by the mentioning of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to be a spot on reference for multiple characters, not just the ones that most readily come to mind at first.
Some fabulous twists, an unpredictable plot, and phenomenal character development. A great thriller to end the year on!

Gosh I love Stacy Willingham’s writing. Although this wasn’t my favorite novel, it was still so good.
Why wasn’t it her best work? I knew Margot was responsible for Eliza’s death from the beginning. Her other books threw me completely for a loop. But there were other twists I didn’t see coming—Lucy and Nicole especially.
It also seemed like A LOT of death. (Hopefully) Too far fetched to be realistic.

While reading this story all I could think of is the opening song to pretty little liars. “Cause two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.” This book reminded me of this show because it is a group of girls and one might be dead. The story goes from the beginning to the present with a few twists along the way. I thought I knew who the killer was, but I was wrong.

Twisty! No one is who they already to be. This has a triple timeline, but it was well done and not confusing.
Graphic: Death, Drug use, Alcohol
Moderate: Sexual assault
