This is for sure my favorite from Willingham. Sure, her writing is still denser than I like in a thriller. But I had so much fun with this.
The truest testament to that is that I guessed a lot of twists and I didn't even care because they were GOOD.
I totally called Lucy not being a student and being Eliza's half sister. And that Margot killed Eliza (though I thought it was on purpose).
I love these obsessive friendship stories. And, as someone who has felt attachment issues (thanks, anxiety), it's oddly reassuring to know that I only ever felt sad if I felt left behind by friends and not...murderous.
I absolutely did not guess that Sloane killed Lucy to protect Nicole. Or that Nicole had killed Levi, thinking he was her boyfriend (he was wearing his shirt) because her boyfriend had raped her on Halloween.
It was just a compelling thriller that had me on the edge of my seat. And it's proof that, while I often complain when I can see twists coming, it's only when they're lame twists lol
There was also a quote I loved about holding onto things but I have to get the book from the library to add it.
Basically, it's probably closer to a 4 but, because I liked it more than her others, I have to bump it up.

Another hit by Willingham! This book is great for those who enjoy multiple timelines that all converge at the end. There is moderate plot twist that isn’t entirely shocking but also not fully what I had anticipated either. There was excellent character development!
Graphic: Death, Emotional abuse, Sexual assault, Grief, Stalking, Murder, Gaslighting, Toxic friendship, Alcohol
Definitely a good read with some twists but not enough for 5 stars for me. Read a bit slow for me and then everything at once in the end. Also just felt like it ended with leaving us assuming at the end.

Just blah...didnt care about any of the characters, cardboard. Mystery was not compelling until a very fast wrap it all up ending.
Margot went to college in South Carolina for a new start. It’s a chance to get away – from her small town, her family and the memories of her dead best friend. She gets her wish when the enigmatic Lucy invites her to join two other girls in a shared house for their second year. But as Margot gets to know the girls, she begins to realise that something’s off about Lucy, she’s not quite what she seems. Six months later, Lucy is missing and a boy from the frat house next door is dead, leaving Margot in the wake of the investigation.
A well written engrossing psychological thriller, the characters were well portrayed, the pace was good although not fast more of a stroll than a run but it kept me on the edge of my seat. There were twists I didn’t see coming. A thoroughly enjoyable thriller
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
