this book was super cute and chill in the best way until the last 5%. Wholesome childhood friends to lovers and relatable concept from childhood with a really tragic ending. the only book where I feel like a sporadic ‘I love you’ is warranted

Contrary to all the other reviews, I wasn’t in love with this book. While some parts of the novel did make my heart hurt, it was all so predictable. However, I think that my mediocre experience reading this book might have been related to the fact I blazed through it in one day and didn’t really feel connected to the characters.

I have to write this review because I looked up “fanart” and it was so backwards.
For reference I usually look up “fanart” to so how other people think the characters look. And from the reviews I saw no one mentions this but instead focus on “I’m not like other girls” trait. Guys, Autumn is a scene queen/ emo chick and Jamie was her skater boi. This is a emo chick is actually in love with the preppy boy fic. C’mon.
That said this book was definitely Wattpad-isk.
I’m giving it 2 stars because despite devouring this we are way past our tiara wearing emo phase to be writing characters like this in a published book.
I’m not giving spoilers, I think I’ve given a good visual at least.
For parents: I wouldn’t suggest this book to young hs students. It’s definitely YA but mature. It has sex and alcohol. There’s themes of depression and suicidal ideation.
If you’re older and lived through 2000’s peak emo era - get ready to feel nostalgic with this one.
