Runaways, Vol. 1: Find Your Way Home by Rainbow Rowell

I thought that, given that this is labeled Vol 1 and is the start of Rainbow Rowell’s writing for Runways, this would be a good place to jump back into the series. I was wrong - most of the content was referencing events from the previous run that I hadn’t read and the whole collection just felt like background/setup with very little original story. But I’m guessing it would be much more enjoyable read in sequence with the other previous comics.

I don't think its fair to give this a rating. I didn't know anything about Runaways going into this and I don't know anything about these characters or their history or their relationships with each other.

That said, I'm interested enough to read the originals!

I loved almost everything about Find Your Way Home. But it's got Rowell at the helm. Can't be objective. Liked the writing and I liked the art, too.

I haven't read any previous Runaways titles, but I have seen two seasons of the show on Hulu, so I had enough knowledge to follow most of the story. I don't think anything in this volume was ground-breaking, and it felt like it was almost all set-up for the rest of the series, but I enjoyed it enough that I started reading the second volume as soon as I was done with the first.

Rainbow Rowell revived the Runaways and made them better than they have been in a long time! I can’t wait to keep reading!!

Great re-introduction to this story. I enjoyed the summing up of old storylines (especially as I never finished the original run, shhh) but I am looking to the plot moving forward a bit more. Liked most of the art, except some of the facial expressions.

The visual dissonance between my mental image of the Runaways and their new designs is a) not a negative per se, just weird, and b) more than made up for by Rowell's excellent treatment of the characters. It's clear with every frame that this is a writer who loves her subjects dearly, and the book hearkens back to the Runaways I know and love. I read volumes 1 and 2 back to back, so I'll leave the rest of my review on the page for volume 2.

Read as individual issues.
The band is back together. I'm a huge fan of the original BKV series, Rainbow Rowell and the art of Kris Anka, so this book was a dream come true.

This is a great introductory arc. Each character is introduced with their own stakes woven into a final issue with the characters reunited and battling an unexpected enemy. A fun book.

Great character work, wonderful humor and heartbreaking moments.

If you've enjoyed Rowell's prior work or the original BKV series, you should read this book.
