I am around a 3.25-3.5 ⭐️ for this one. I usually like a forbidden story, but Hannah was a little much at times. Too many happy, then sad, then happy, sad again and then finally happy moments.
That narrators were good.

I was pretty lukewarm on this book during the entire first half. Not that I condone a guidance counselor dating a student in real life (even if she’s 19 which the FMC was and the MMC is only in his 20’s which he was) but normally in a book I can look passed it for entertainment purposes. But the FMC in this book was so incredibly immature - like I’m talking elementary school level immature - that it was really hard to look passed.

The first half didn’t feel like a hot and steamy taboo story about a student and her guidance counselor. This felt like an actual child and her guidance counselor. There’s a way to do taboo and this really isn’t it.

The second half that skips forward two years is wayyy better. No longer taboo and Henna’s immaturity is mostly gone. I get that the author was trying to show growth from a 19 year old to 21 year old but I think she went overboard during the first half. But nonetheless the second half was good and the story was overall pretty interesting. 3.5

True Love

What an amazing story! This is the first book I've read by Jewel and I will definitely be grabbing another. What a beautiful, heart wrenching story!

“The way he loves me is more beautiful than anything I’ve seen in the whole world—and I’ve seen a lot.”

I wasn’t ready to like this as much as I did. I wasn’t expecting to feel my heart ache the way it did.

It took me a while to get into the book. Maybe it was the insta-love (doesn’t always work for me) but once the story picks up, I couldn’t put it down.

Henna is.. complicated. She’s two different people: the depressed girl with no goals but also a dreamer that despite being rich, is simple and full of life (it’s contradictory, I know). Her immaturity and selfish behavior was a bit a turn off to me at first but she had the greatest development through the story. It’s insane how she grew up and became a confident wise strong woman.

Bodhi has everything on his shoulders. His life isn’t easy, he has so much to lose with this forbidden romance and also is caged to the life he has to the point he’s suffocating. Bodhi is the mature of the two. I love how he loves Henna. He encourages her to live and enjoy life, to chase her dreams and plans even if he can’t be with her, he refuses to hold her back from flying and he’s so proud of her. Seriously, his selfless is inspiring. He, more than any character, deserves so much and so much more.

“In spite of what you believe, my Henna could never be temporary.”

The two, together, are cute and full of passion and love. The way they need each other to breathe shows how much they depend on the other. There was so many obstacles to their relationship but they overcome all of them, with scars but still together.

This book was a pleasant surprise. Totally recommend it to those looking for angst and a sweet couple.

Last year I discovered this incredible author and she became one of my favorites, it was only fitting that I kicked off my reading year with this gem. I adore how Jewel E. Ann puts us through the ringer everytime, how flawed and awesome and real her characters and the emotions they portray are.

A Place Without You was an amazing story but man it had me so damn anxious from the very beginning. It put me through the emotional wringer and I loved every minute of it. It was the perfect blend of forbidden, taboo and a host of other things that i won't mention because I don't want to spoil it for others. It's very immersive and an enjoyable story that I recommend.

A Place Without You

Fans of Emily Henry will appreciate the angsty love story of Henna and Bodhi. We watch Henna and Bodhi navigate their love for each other over the course of many years and a number of pivotal events, as they try to find a place to fit in the other’s life.

I enjoyed this story and felt a deep connection for the characters. The feeling of identification and peace that Bodhi found in Henna’s love for him was well developed and I could feel it as I read along.

However, I did find Henna to be a bit aggressive and exasperating at times. I suppose that was intentional. She was 19 years old when the book started after all. Nonetheless, at times it was frustrating to watch her push Bodhi so much and be generally careless.

This books also offers a welcomed and nuanced exploration of marijuana- how it affects people using it for both recreational and medical purposes. Henna’s struggle with chronic pain was described in a sensitive and believable way. I appreciated the thoughtful way that we saw Henna find benefit, and sometimes harm, from her use of marijuana.

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.

What do I think? Well I'm always bad at writing reviews. Honestly I hate writing thsm. I hate writing in general but I love to read. But since it's a new year I'm going to give it a go.

This book was a roller coaster of emotions for me. It was one heck of a ride.

It was a true love type of romance with a lot of growth and challenge to get to that love. One of the main things this book kept coming back to was about LIVING your life.

This story is emotional, angsty, heartbreaking beautiful. It makes you think about life and the timing of things and how it all unfolds.

Bodhi and Henna will forever have a place in my heart. This is my first Jewel E Ann book and it won't be my last.
