Kind of loved it but not sure about the ending so it gets 4 stars. The world is somewhat rough and primitive and that's not usual in fantasy, so I liked that rather a lot; and the gods are strange and wondrous, which is neat. Eolo is a great character.

The Raven Tower was suggested to me as a remedy for my post-Black Sun disappointment and it worked! Oof, I adored it. It’s about a prince trying to overthrow his usurper uncle and claim his rightful place on the throne in service of the local god. It’s the Raven God, which I love because I love corvids and find them to be simultaneously terrifying and loveable. The book starts out being narrated by an unseen and unknown character, and I can’t reveal who it is because the reveal is so fun and really makes the book. It’s really the thread holding the book together, and the reason I sat down for four hours and finished the book in one sitting. The way Leckie writes gender in this and the Ancillary series is so refreshing and joyful. Between that, the strong character writing, and creative god/magic system, it’s a fun read.
