It sucks that Nellie was a bully and Laura had to sit there and take it to be nice. It's funny reading it as an adult and noticing that the parents are indeed freaking the f*** out and trying to not let the kid's notice it.

I 100% forgot that I read this book as a kid, until my coworker and I were talking about earth houses and it sent me on a quest to discover which Little House book that was a part of. Turns out, this is the book that made the biggest impression. The dugout house and the locusts!

These women on the prairie were tough as nails. I want to be Ma when I grow up.

I think I need to take a break from this series. It’s not as entertaining as it was when I was a kid. This one, though, was always my favorite. However, reading it at 17 I am aware of how bad-off the Ingalls were.
