While i loved hearing about his experience of his first term it was very much a play by play of his presidency in a way that you would find in a news report and could have been reduced in size especially as this is only the first part and it’s 700 pages.

One of the best political memoirs I have read. Like his previous books, Obama once again writes masterfully, showing the struggles and triumphs that he and his administration went through in their first term. Struggling against adversity, a phrase comes to mind often in the book "the audacity of hope". Seeing the challenges his administration underwent, you still hope, and feel the hope Obama brought to countless people. Highly recommend the read

A lovely recounting of Obama’s political life and (most of) his first term. I credit him for speaking about his fears, hopes, concerns and failures in a candid manner. Seeing a man in leadership speak so lovingly about the people who work for him and what their contributions meant is a great lesson in gratitude in leadership (which was missing for a few years there). But above all, the book is well written and, for all the high minded and historic content, makes for easy reading. I’m sure there are blind spots and things to criticize in this book, but I won’t deny I enjoyed reading it. Also, recommend pairing with the audio book. The man is a good speaker after all.

Finished doing the washing.

No star review bc it’s a re-read. Interesting to read about his experience of the Middle East given current events.

If you’re looking for a book about Obama, this likely isn’t for you. If you’re looking at a behind the scenes take on the election, policy negotiations, and meetings with world leaders, then this is more your style.
