Don't Tempt Me

Lori Foster

3.6 AVERAGE

4.5 stars. This was so good - I arrived at work with mascara running from listening while on the way. I finally see the fuss about Lori Foster - it's a shame I didn't start with this book! Full review to follow on blog.

The tale of Jason & Honor is completely mushable. Both are filled to the brim with integrity & deserve the ultimate happiness. My only qualms is that is that resolution is drawn out too long. These 2 get together with plenty of book left, but they aren't really the problem. It takes Honor that much longer for her to decide that she deserves the HEA that is in her lap. Regardless of my little frustration, Jason is beyond patient while Honor finds her way to happiness.

Lori Foster has become my guilty pleasure author. The chemistry between the characters she writes is incredibly addictive and makes it impossible to put the book down. I thought I was going to be incredibly loyal to the Ultimate crew, but when I saw this on Netgalley, I figured I'd give it a shot. Don't Tempt Me made me forget all about any other character Lori has written and Honor and Jason have quickly become one of my favorite couples of all time.

The reason I give it 4 stars is because Lori Foster has a habit of making her characters say "I love you! Will you move in with me? Better yet lets get married! What do you think about kids?!" all in one breath and I'm fairly tired of that. I can't relate well to that. I'll give her next book 5 stars if her couple just had a normal relationship progression. I understand that this *does* happen sometimes in real life, but not every single relationship like Lori writes.

Aside from that, I have no criticisms! I love Lexie's BFF over protective character and I especially love Hogan's stubbornness. (That may be why I also love Honor too)

Bring on the next one!

Thank you Netgalley and HQN Books for a copy of this!

Ooh boy, what to say about this one? To be honest, I just want to say, lacking effort. Foster's writing is a bit like Shalvis with its easy readability and tendency to stick to a formula. It's a formula I greatly enjoy but this one, especially with the main couple, felt completely uninspired. I don't feel like I really grew to know the hero at all and both the hero and heroine came off a bit ho-hum. I got way more from the secondary couples and especially the secondary romance, in which about 30-40% of the story is given to.
As the first in the series, the series baiting characters stole the show more than once and even though I really liked the secondary couple, it seems their romance is resolved here, I really wanted them to get their own book. This felt rushed, squeezed in, and the main couple was uninspired. Looking at the second in the series, it looks like Foster continues with the two couples format. With books that are around 300pgs, I sometimes don't find that long enough to fully flush out a romance to my liking, adding a second couple makes the story feel more like two novellas smashed together.
I can see people who want more of shorter, quicker romances liking these better. The half star is for the German Sheppard doggie that comes in towards the end :)

Lately I've been drifting a little bit more away from romance but it is my original favorite genre when it comes to books and movies. This book was very good. Jason and Honor always gave me extreme butterflies. I love the way he was with her. I love how he's the one that got her to open up. I love stories with good genuine friendships so I really appreciated the friendship in this book between Honor and Lexie. I'm not going to lie, Honor did get a little annoying with some of her habits one third of the way through but she did get over it. Speaking of that, I especially loved both Lexie and Honor's character growth, as well as Sullivan's. Jason was pretty much perfection to me from the beginning. Overall great book 5 stars.

Good, but not a favorite.

I've have been a Lori Foster fan since I first discovered her books back when I was in college. I think it's close to ten years now. The fact that I've stuck with all her new releases for such a long time shows you how much I really enjoy her books. That said, not every book can blow me away, and Don't Tempt Me didn't really hit the right mark for me.

Don't Tempt Me has a main romance, and a secondary romance. The fact that there is a secondary romance is a problem for me as I'm not a fan of secondary romances. The main romance is between Jason and Honor.

Jason and Honor meet when Honor buys a house next to his. The house is in need of an update, and Jason, his brother and his nephew, want to help Honor, but Honor is pretty stubborn on doing things on her own. I really struggled with understanding and liking Honor. I didn't hate her at all, but she definitely got on my nerves, and I never completely understood why she was so insistent on doing everything on her own. I did really like Jason, though. Jason is totally a typical Lori Foster hero, and that is a great thing. He is honorable, and gorgeous and always willing to lend a helping hand. He is not a jerk-face.

The secondary romance was between Honor's best friend, Lexie, and Honor's new neighbor, Sullivan. As I mentioned above, I'm not a fan of the secondary romance, and I didn't love it here, either. I really liked Lexie; she's smart, and adorable, and willing to push through obstacles. But Sullivan totally pissed me off, always thinking Lexie is just a party girl. And so what if she is a party girl, does that not mean she doesn't deserve kindness and the benefit of the doubt. And because their romance was a smaller part of the story, I never felt like Sullivan proved himself worthy of Lexie.

I absolutely did not hate Don't Tempt Me by Lori Foster, but it is far from my favorite by her. While I loved Lexie and Jason, they weren't the ones getting together. And I didn't care much for switching between Jason and Honor's romance and Lexie and Sullivan's romance. I love Lori Foster's book, but I would recommend reading some of her others long before this one. This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook

ARC received for an honest review

Hidey ho neighbours, that was my first though as I started reading Don't Tempt me.

This is a sweet contemporary romance, set in a small town - but where oh where were the Guthrie boys when I move to a small town? - and from the first insta-lust look to the last look of love, I was hooked.

This is really 2 stories in one, Honor and Jason, and Lexie and Sullivan (but mainly Honor's book).

Honor is smitten with sexy neighbour Jason from their first embarrassing meeting. She is pretty quiet and reserved, but this boy gets her motor running.

Their relationship isn't really a slow burn, but it isn't an insta-love kind either. It is the Goldilocks rate, it was just right.

At times I just wanted to shake some sense into Honor, but I could also understand why she is so reserved and at times appearing stand offish.

But they could really be perfect for each other - if she will let them?

Lexie on the other hand is the party girl of the pair, very outgoing and goes after what she wants. And what she wants is Sullivan,

In comparison to Honor and Jason, their relationship kind of feels like it goes balls to the wall, from zero to sixty in 10 pages. But it isn't really like that. I think it feels that way as we don't get so much of their story as the others.

I wanted to bitch slap Honor's family. Ugh to me they were just horrible! (well, one only mostly horrible, and I couldn't understand her really)

The main thing about this story, beside the lovey love stuff is about family. Family is who you surround yourself with, not necessarily those joined by blood. Get the right people around you and you can take on the world.

This was a great start to this series, and I can't wait for more. I need Hogan's story, like now!

I received an ARC of this title for my honest review. Ok, so honestly, I have read several of Lori Foster's book and have enjoyed them all. I loved Honor and Jason's story. This first book in her new series give me a taste of what is to come and I will be definitely be looking for more in this series. The characters we are introduced to in this book are so real and the community they all seem to want to make better is something I think everyone should be able to relate with. I will looking for Jason's brother Hogan's story.
