4.23 AVERAGE

Great series!

Just as good the second time around. This is as far as I got last time and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Tight plot, sympathetic characters, political and academic intrigue, and lots of action.

It's like aightttt. I feel like the YA-ness is strong with this one haha so many overreactions. And also why does literally everyone wanna make out with everyone like what is happening!!! The magic/training was kinda mid but also I was still entertained lol so I'm along for the ride

The second book had a better pace than the first. And I like almost all of the characters. I am a little disappointed in the main character but hope to see some growth in the 3rd book.

4.5

I don't think I like this quite as much as "The Demon King", but it's pretty good all the same, just a little too much emotional angst and a number of those moments when I want to bang a character over the head and say "will you just TELL him/her already?" because it would save so much trouble if she/he did.

The Exiled Queen took a lot longer to finish than it should have.
I love this series, Cinda Williams Chima has a skill with writing fantasy.
This story follows Amon, Raisa and Han through their journey to Oden's Ford, where the undertake a "Harry Potter" like schooling experience in wizadry and warring.
I enjoy the characters more this time around as Chima delves deeper into the story. The differences in the characters are stark and I love the way Raisa is both a lady and a spitfire fighter or how Han is both stubborn and a sucker to his gut instincts/emotions.
I can't say much more without ruining anything. I'm excited to see where it all leads, something is clearly brewing in the Seven Realms.

It's so great to see another series that just takes off like this; The Exiled Queen continues every bit of the great characters, fascinating world, and intriguing, magic-rich plot that The Demon King began.

Once again, the alternating stories of Raisa and Han are told, but these two are no longer just the headstrong princess and conflicted streetlord they once were. Raisa, now practically a fugitive, is fleeing the political web of power and betrayal the wizards have entangled the royal line in, and Han, grappling with his newly discovered status as a wizard, journeys to fulfill his side of a contract with the realm's spirit clans. But their paths are destined to cross again, this time at Oden's Ford, where the schools for wizards, soldiers, scholars, and dedicates collide.

I loved the way the story continued to twist and turn, with dashes of intrigue liberally thrown in. Han gets himself into several unusual alliances, reunites with unexpected old friends and enemies, and realizes that in order to keep his head above water in this new world, he will have to cultivate new skills in addition to his streetwise ways. Raisa, completely out of her element as a cadet in disguise, gets significant character development and becomes an even more admirable heroine (a scene in which she defends herself from assault with quite unladylike ferocity had me cheering inwardly). And their interactions together in this book, while again fairly brief, are very significant, taking things barely hinted at in the first novel and bringing them to the forefront. The author also continues the admirable skill of making sure the minor characters shine, and each of them is completely unique and integral to the story in some way.

The novel ends on another cliffhanger, perhaps even more suspenseful than the first, and it makes the wait ahead for the next Seven Realms book look way too long!

This is the political intrigue I live for.

Actual rating 3.5 stars.

all those gifs up above basically sums up how I felt when this book ended..... and now I'm asking myself WHY DIDN'T I PICK THIS SERIES UP SOONER WHEN I KEPT SEEING THEM AT MY LOCAL LIBRARY!!!??? WHERE HAVE I BEEN?? So thanks to my friend who recommended these to me and basically handed me the first book to borrow and making me read these! I had to use library copies after book one since she and her little family had to move to Belgium for the next couple of years for her husband's work. anyway, I also want to marry Han Alister or Amon Byrne. I can't decide.

if you haven't read these books GO READ THEM NOW! Book one was good but it REALLY picks up in this second book a lot and once the schools get into the year, it's so much fun and someone described it kinda like Hogwarts with your little groups and it's true. Not HP good but I did love the world building even more and the two schools of Mystwerk House for the wizards and Wien House for the soldiers/cadets. great development and made me want to go to school there! :D so it's a solid 4 stars like The Demon King but not quite 5. but it's still REALLY good and I loved it!! I can't wait to see what happens next! :D
