This book completely took my breath away. It took me three times longer to read than others because it had to be taken in small doses. It was a story of several families and characters so intricately and intimately intertwined. The imagery of the Salinas Valley and Monterey County was beautifully breathtaking. Steinbeck's narration was such a pleasure, so brilliant and provoked so much emotion and thought. In short, this was a story of good vs evil, redemption, sin, but above all else it was about humans and their need to be loved. I couldn't write a review to do this book justice even if I tried and tried again. I was so sad to see it end. It has become a favorite, top three certainly, that I will assuredly enjoy again.
