I picked up this book based purely on the cover. I glanced at the title and blurb but lbr the cover got me. Not the original one but the reddish one.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked Gray and Pel as the main. But partway through I grew more intrigued with Trenton and Abby. I legit enjoyed their bits the most. I'm sad this is a single title.

4 Stars. I really liked it but I didn't love it.

I wanted to like this, I really did. A lot of it was entertaining, but it became really difficult to fully enjoy.

I thought it was a good length, and the writing was decent enough. I did become attached to the characters, and I did want to know what happened next. It was suitably steamy. I might have given this a three or four star rating if not for the things that I didn't enjoy.

As for those less enjoyable aspects, I will admit first and foremost that the more rape-y aspects put me off. A lot. It's hard to enjoy the sex scenes when she's all but physically fighting him off. Even the secondary plot was guilty of kidnap instead of conversation. Moments like these took me out of the book, and it took time to get back into it after. As much as I did enjoy the overall plot, I feel like parts of it got to be a bit empty, like there should have been more meat in places. I found myself losing interest in anything from the story to the sex as the book progressed.

There were things to like about this book, and the parts that I enjoyed were things I enjoyed a lot. But the things I didn't enjoy either pulled me out of the story altogether, or had me wishing it would just move along. I previously enjoyed Sylvia Day's works more than this, and I'm disappointed that this one didn't exactly knock my socks off.

I'm falling more deeply in love with Sylvia Day's novels. Her historical novels are by far the best I've read and I really enjoy reading them. This one was even better than the one before this and I bet they keep getting better and better so I will recommend her books to everybody I know and I will continue reading her books and hopefully I won't ever grow tired of her writing because they bring me so much joy!

I like this book characters a lot. I've always been a little bit different compared to others and was bullied for it so it's nice to read something like this even when it happens in the past. I like how even though they face so much trouble and rumors and dislike, they still stay together and they are happy and everybody accepts that in the end. It warms my heart really to see love winning in the end.

3.5 stars. Did you ever go to a house party at university where they took all the hard liquor they had and put it into a bin and called it Jungle Juice? That is this book. There are so many romance tropes in this book it could fill a Ripped Bodice bingo card all on its own.
In the hands of a less deft author, it wouldn’t have worked. It very nearly didn’t. But just as it got close to veering completely into crazysauce, she pulled it back. I even had a few tears at the epilogue.

For a purely guilty romance novel, this one isn't bad. The plots that don't immediately involve sex are fairly entertaining, although not fully realized--there's never a hint in the reader's mind that any of them will actually get in the way of the lovers' reuniting. What kept me reading was a subplot with the heroine's brother Rhys, which is much more moving than the travails of the two main characters and which ends in a very entertaining twist. My final verdict: by all means take this to the beach with you, but you might want to bring something more substantive plot-wise in case this leaves you feeling less than satisfied.

Sylvia day is the one for me. I cannot say that I have read all of her books, but the ones that I did held me captivated from the first word to the last, and this was no exception. I loved it and Meh she can write about love!.

And geez, his mother, no description required, what a bitch?

Gerard Grayson, you have now a place in my heart, I really felt his love for Isabel (Pel), they made such a loving couple.

5 stars

Despite only rating this 4 stars, this is one of my favorite romances. (This was my first reread.) This book is truly an erotic romance with a ton of sex scenes, but Pel and Gray really work hard fo bring out the best in one another and slay their personal demons. There are some problematic scenes, especially in the otherwise adorable side romance between Isabel’s brother, Rhys, and his bluestocking love interest Abby. But otherwise if you like your historical romance super porny but with great characters, I really recommend this one.
