2.5 My first foray into "erotic historical romance" is a mixed bag. An interesting premise with intriguingly imagined characters, but less than compelling writing, lack of plotting, and showing rather than telling character development makes for a so-so read.
I know it's odd to say but 1815-1820 was entirely the wrong setting for this book, 200 years earlier would have been a much better period.
The story itself is quite entertaining so Miss Day has done it again. If you like her other historical stories you'll love this.
For me, however there was just too much talk about age in a relationship where the parties were only a few years apart. This period of history was as careless in regards to age as we are today, if a young nobleman married an older woman it was assumed he did it for her wealth which was so common place it was barely considered gossip, and considering those relationships had a score of years and more separating the pair, a five year span would have hardly raised eyebrows. Honestly, I wonder why miss Day Keeps writing books set in England, here stories here feel so American, they'd be much better served in the colonies.

World building takes some time in a fantasy, but for this kind of novel there is a gentler way to introduce characters than to just toss your reader right into the middle of things. It read like a second novel in a series, as though I was already supposed to know the characters.

. Algo que siempre hago es comenzar leyendo el final, la razón si el final me gusta.Es probable que la historia me guste. Por eso comenzare hablándoles por el final.
Y el final estuvo... A mí gusto bastaante como el de las novelas de Harlequinn, no sé me recordó a ese tipo de novelas. De ahí de entrada no me gusto mucho, ya que de Sylvia lo único que he leído es The Wish list que Es un relato corto (Resumen corto: la protagonista divorciada hace una lista caliente con el protagonista, el cumple gran parte de la lista, ella huye, él después le demuestra que está dispuesto a intentarlo con ella) y pues esperaba algo parecido. Lo único parecido fueron las escenas sexuales, que le aplaudo como las escribe, son verdaderamente eróticas, tiene un buen manejo sobre las escenas sexuales. No soy muy fan de las novelas sexuales eróticas pero en este libro, a unas cuantas escenas, lo único rescatable es el sexo, ya que Pel es una mujer feminista y adelantada a su época ya que se da la libertad de tener placer sexual con quién les plazca. Gerard es un hombre muy sensual y sexual que me gusta y me divierte que sabe lo que quiere y así, me gusto que madurara realmente ese tiempo que desapareció de la faz de la tierra.
Sobre la trama. La verdad hubiera disfrutado más de la historia si no fuera de época. De hecho por más que intentaba no podía hacerlo, venía a mi mente la época actual. O por más antigua los 80s que fue cuando de algún otro modo comenzó la liberación sexual femenina.
El libro lo leí en dos días (en mi ritmo de lectura es relativamente rápido) pero aún así se me hizo muy pesado, sentía que la forma de narrarlo no era el adecuado, ya que los dos narraban lo mismo, entiendo que la autora quería presentarnos el POV de ambos pero me resultaba eternoooooo, sentía que era una pérdida de tiempo. Como historia un poco más corta, sin tanta paja pudo haber funcionado mucho mejor, podría haberme encantado. Ya que para ser una novela de romance histórico. Lo menos que tenía eran datos históricos. Si la comparo con mis novelas favoritas de romance histórico como "Outlander" o Nueve reglas para conquistar a un granuja ❤️ altamente recomendado. En ambas novelas se mencionan más claramente costumbres, datos, vestuarios, mientras que aquí, no lo sentí como si fuera parte de la historia y por ser una novela de romance histórico debió ser parte de la historia.
Así que si me preguntan, estuvo bien una lectura dominguera pero nada más. No tiene nada de diferente a las novelas de romance histórico de Harlequinn. Lo sé porque a mi mamá le encanta leer de esas.
Así que yo le doy 3.5/5.
PD: Que bueno que se murió Emily ya que siento que si hubiera vivido mientras estaban casados, podría ser que los protagonistas no quedarán juntos, cosa que quería que pasara
Pd2: soy la única que quería golpear a la protagonista cada maldita vez que le decía a Gerard que era demasiado grande para el. O sea espera que el tuviera 18 y ella 35 o así. Pero eran 4 años. Y antes de que alguien me diga que en aquellos años 26-30 años es mucho, en aquellos años, las mujeres tenían muchos hijos, así que debo deducir que si tenían muchos hijos deberían saber que mientras menstrúen "son fértiles" además Pel era sexualmente activa así que sabía que podía quedar embarazada. Pero en fin.
PD 3: Chris Evans como Gerard porque lo amo.

Her historical is just as good as her contemporary
This is my first Sylvia Day historical and I was happily surprised. Angst flows throughout the tale of two serial players that decide to a fake marriage. But when Gray leaves then comes back a changed man he has a rough road to get Pel to take him seriously. I also enjoyed the little side story with Rhys and Abby. Great read.

The camaraderie between the FMC and MMC in the prologue was promising, but following the four-year time-jump their relationship turned into the MMC seducing the reluctant FMC into submission à la betraying body syndrome.

I liked that the heroine wasn't your standard main female character- she was older than her husband and she wasn't an innocent virgin, she was openly sexual and happy about it. Most of the books that I have have read set in the regency have female characters that are either complete innocents or fall into a life of 'sin' against their will, so Pel is really quite a refreshing change. I did however find it a bit dull, there didn't seem to be much plot. There was also a lot of sex scenes and I didn't really like them that much- it was kind of rapey, isabel is saying no and Gerald carries on, her body might have been enjoying it but she was saying no.
It helped a long train journey pass a quicker but I doubt I'll be re-reading it.

Tai jau ketvirtoji autorės knyga, tačiau nežinau ar aš paskutiniu metu darausi išranki ir priekabi, bet nu „nelimpa“ man šios autorės knygos ir viskas. Nors knyg ir kiek kitokia nei prieš tai skaitytos, ši labiau istorinė, bet galbūt tai ją ir sugadino? ... Knygoje aprašomos tik scenos, o pačio turinio ar idėjos jokios. Suprantu, kad taip tai šios autorės stilius, bet rašyti apie nieką ir būti topuose – man kiek keistai. Nors jos knygos skaitosi greitai, tačiau nepalieka jokio įspūdžio ar kokio prisiminimo apie jas. Tai tiek.
