I was expecting a lesson on not being selfish, or being friendly to nature. Something with a sentimental ending and lesson to be learned. That kinda didn’t happen.... so I would give it 3 stars. It’s just okay..

Ova knjiga je ljubav, i nije (samo) za decu, mada ne škodi da je svojoj deci čitate ponovo i ponovo, što češće.

Personally, I feel this book is about selfless love. But I can see how it could divide opinion. And I can also see how it is a classic.

What is the message here? Take advantage of a friend for life and abandon him every time after he does something great for you. Worst children's book I have ever read.

Let's talk about boundaries, kids. I'm using this as an introductory text for a sophomore lit circle unit related to the idea of sacrifice.

This book used to just make me mad, but now I do think it is a good place to start a discussion on healthy boundaries. Because was the tree really happy? Who was caring for it when it was caring for the boy?
