Another good story in the Loving on the Edge series. The two main characters have baggage and history together which makes their relationship more believable, but the fact that they don't remember each other when they cross paths as adults is a little hard to swallow. Also there is an arson fire that burns down a restaurant which leads the reader to believe it is an important plot point, but it is glossed over as an old girlfriend and is never really addressed. Otherwise, the story is very good. As always with Roni Loren, the BDSM elements are handled tastefully but with an intensity that is hard to ignore.

Need You Tonight by Roni Loren is a 2014 Berkley publication. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Tessa catches her husband Doug and her best friend in throes of passion. Doug says some nastier things than usual and now it's D-I-V-O-R-C-E. Doug is all Tessa has really known. She has dated him since high school and has built a life around him. They had a financially comfortable exsistance and Tessa mainly worked with charitable organizations.
Out with the girls one night Tessa meets "Van". A hot night with a hot guy is just what Tessa needs to give her back a little of the confidence Doug has stolen from her. When Tessa and Van are put in a dangerous situation that requires an ambulance, Van, aka - Kade is stunned to discover that his "Contessa" is Tessa, the girl he was head over heels in love with in high school. Kade was a very different guy back then. He was the smart guy that tutored those having trouble with their grades, and he had an unfortunate speech impediment that caused him to be teased a lot. This is a stark contrast with the current day Kade, a good looking and successful guy that has his pick of women. Once Kade realizes who he just spent a hot night with he is determined to keep her in his sights.
It took Tessa awhile to realize that Kade was Kaden from high school. Her ex- husband had bullied Kaden and had beaten him up badly on one occasion. With Doug continuing to harrass Tessa, her eyes open up to the kind of man Doug really is and always was. In the meantime, Kade introduces Tessa to his world of sex clubs and threesomes among other things. Tessa has been in a plain vanilla sexual relationship due to Doug's idea of how a wife should behave in the bedroom. So. while uncomfortable with some things, Tessa agrees to go along with Kade in his sex games, and finds she enjoys it.
I will tell you all the plain simple truth. I don't usually read this type of erotica. I'm just too old for this type of romance novel to appeal to me. I signed on to do a blog tour for this book and asked to review without realizing fully what type of erotica we were talking about, which is my fault. So, I must admit this is not my cup of tea, but I did like the story sans the BDSM parts. I liked how Kade transformed himself into a confident sucessful man and I loved how the lovers have a second chance at a relationship now that Tessa has seen Doug's true colors. I also liked Tessa's sexual awakening and this could still have happened without the belts and menage, which is outside my normal comfort zone. Having said all that , I still enjoyed the book for the most part . Doug getting his comuppance was maybe the highlight of the book and much deserved. If you are into this genre of romance then I really think you will like this book. It has a good love story and a strong plot and not just a enough conversation to warrant the sex scenes.
Overall I will give this book a B.

This book was absolutely unbelievable!! Totally amazing!! And I am NOT just saying that!. I was squeeling and laughing and brought to tears by this book, as well as insanely mad at the antagonist and more than once did I want to reach into the book and bitch slap the clap out of'em!.

I guess what really got me was the whole geek and the popular girl thing going on. I mean, in the beginning it was completely juxtapositioned and a bit strong , but not too overwhelming. Then later on their former selves came light; nicely eased into. However, that can't be said for how quick things got hot, steamy, and just right. But if you can't handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

This was this first time I actually felt connected, or empathy, for lack of a better word, for both main characters. Especially the main Dom in this erotica love story. Most of the time the Dom's flaws, or more vulnerable sides aren't shown, but I think in this particular scenario, it fit in perfectly, and most definitly gave more understanding of the Dom's dominant attributes. Very well written, and more so with the sex scenes. It is important to write a scene that isn't corny or porn-y and it was executed extremely well from start to finish.

This was the story of Tessa and Kade. This was not my favourite story. I just didn't find Tessa a very aspirational heroine. She just felt a bit weak and insipid. She is a goodlooking, cheerleader girl who didn't stand up for herself from childhood because she was a foster kid scared of being rejected. I get the sense in that, but the history behind how the two characters met was so sad, I just wanted Tessa to have been stronger back then. It kind of made me lose a bit of respect for her.

Kade is a great hero but I find his former vulnerability a bit at odds with the confident man he has become. We are given many flashbacks of Kade and Tessa as teenagers which in the end I found a little jarring as I couldn't reconcile the these people with the adults they had become very smoothly.

It was a good story but a bit angst heavy and sad for me. The evil ex was a bit of a caricature of badness really and although i know the book worked hard to make Tess sound independent, I just felt like she walked straight from one overbearing relationship into another! I know the author argued this point though so perhaps it's just me.

It was still a hot read and I loved the bits with Colby! The BDSM aspect was more full on here. There is a pretty intense scene at the end which I didn't completely get into because I felt like The hero was too distraught for it. I think it must be very hard to be in control and dishing out pain when you have just had such an emotionally negative experience preceding this. I know the author was trying to show Kade's dark side, but it just didn't feel like it was coming from the right place.

Ends at 96% on my Kindle. Approx 5300 locations.
Part of a series but stands alone, HEA, epilogue.

After reading a lot of so-so erotic romance, it's always such a relief when a Roni Loren book comes along. She handles adult romances so well and shows her couples actually communicating and the heroine isn't trapped in too-stupid-to-live-land.

Notes:

Great opening chapter - flying fruit bowl and all.
Awesome sex scenes - olive oil and oranges will be on your next grocery list.
Lots of funny lines highlighted.
Use of office supplies in unusual ways!
Slow buildup to the bdsm side of things and Kade's needs.
Temporary menage scene, Kade's friend invited.
Glimpses of previous characters from the Loving On The Edge series.

There are bdsm elements to this book that may make some people uncomfortable, for me, it's the stuff I look for in erotic romance so I was happy to see it incorporated as many erotic authors seems to shy away from it. Everyone's kink is different!

Thanks Roni for ramping up the the kinky fuckery right at the end! Nice way to finish off the book...ahem.
