I absolutely adore this author's way with words, especially her dialogue - vivid and sassy, even when the theme is serious. This makes her novels perfect for audio, and narrator, Bahni Turpin, did a stellar job. This short (just under one and a half hours) audible original is the perfect introduction to Tayari Jones' books.

My boyfriend and I listened to this on the way back from a trip and enjoyed it. I knew that I would likely enjoy it since I'm a fan of Tayari Jones's writing and was pleased that he liked it, too. Even though I enjoyed listening I couldn't help but wish that I could read along. It certainly had some themes that I love like centering Black women, mother/daughter relationships, sisters, and more. It was a quick listen that I would recommend.

I thought this was a fun little short story. I think because I read it shortly after her other short story I naturally compared the two which I why I've given it a pretty mid-rating as I enjoyed dispossession much more.
But in all honesty, in my opinion I don't think Tayari Jones can write a bad book. All of her stories are good and I always enjoy them.
I'm just being slightly picky as I don't believe this should get a 4* rating as some parts of the story fell a tiny bit flat but all in all good soup.

I read two of Tayari Jones’s short stories for free in Audible, “Half Light” and “Dispossession”. Both were really good but really different types of stories. I think that’s one of her most interesting things. For me, all of her stories and books are good, they are written in similar styles and voices but none of them are really alike, but you can see and feel her throughout. Anyways, I liked this book about a pair of twin sisters healing old wounds and having a mini adventure. It’s narrated by Bahni Turpin, who never misses.
The combination of the writing, the narration, and the short length made this perfect. I was exactly in the mood for it.
