This book is the physical embodiment of cuddling next to the love of your life under a big cozy blanket on the couch on a cloudy day where the only thing on your to-do list is to be lazy together.
funny lighthearted relaxing fast-paced

The parts that you remember fondly are still fun but it's also meaner and more fat-shamey than you probably remember, and it makes a terrible readaloud because the chapters are soooo long.

What is there to say here? It's just so funny and tender and charming. One of the best kids' books ever. Bonus audiobook goodness: we just listened to a full cast recording as a family, led by Dame Judi Dench and Steven Fry. Phenomenal. (I've heard some versions are not so good; thus one was worth seeking out.)
