Another author I have hard about, yet never picked up. I'm glad I did so, and I enjoy the B&N classics edition as it gives background on the authors life and the context in which the stories were written.

The Metamorphosis was a melancholy story that left you to imagine the grotesque form that the protagonist was transformed into.
In the Penal Colony was graphic in its description of a torture device, and like so many of the other short stories ended in a way I wouldn't expect.
My least favourites were Joesphine the Singer and The Stoker.

I will have to look out for more of his short stories.

I bought this in order to read Metamorphosis, which I enjoyed most out of all the stories. Kafka's surreal stories with characters always seeming to be out of control in various situations were novel and interesting. The Penal Colony's vivid imagery will stick with me for a while.

My colleague passed by my desk, looked at my stack of books and said 'Wow, you surely START a lot of them!'
This direct callout motivated me to start finishing some. Thanks Thomas!
