I loved the woman’s perspective offered in this fourth installment of the Earthsea series. I had wondered when Tenar would resurface in the story and I appreciated hearing about her life since her return from the dark with Ged and the life she had chosen to live. I am looking forward to Tehanu’s continued story.
Love how this series progressed over time, also acting as a snapshot of Le Guin's world views in the eras each book was written in, changing over time! Tehanu is the most political, the most righteously angry and yet the most serene story, about being at peace with yourself and the world. Love bringing back the lead character of Tombs of Atuan (still my favourite book in the series I think) and how this progresses the thematic journey of Ged seemlessly from a book made 18 years prior but set only weeks before

Whoopsies I read this before reading the 3rd book in the series, but that's okay ><
Honestly, there's not a single one of le Guin's book's that I think I'll ever rate below a 5 star...there's really nothing that can be improved upon--they're that good!

The end feels rushed, after a slow and careful build up. This is the first book in the series that does not feel complete on its own, anticipating a sequel, and is somehow lesser for it. Yet, it was good to return to Tenar, even as she at times became merely a vehicle for communicating opposing views of the role of gender in society, less of a person of her own. But perhaps that was part of the point, that she was not allowed to be what she might be, instead shaped and molded by others.
She had been told that men must not look into a dragon's eyes, but that was nothing to her.
