Since I read Tehanu in short bursts over the course of a few months, I don't think the book itself is to blame for my experience of it as choppy or disjointed. The writing and world building are lovely as ever, with a healthy dose of anti-patriarchal sentiment and character development that seems a little more socially settled, in comparison to the previous Earthsea books, where social interactions felt much more isolated. I may give the Earthsea cycle a rest for now, but look forward to continuing it regardless.

Just… understands grief and loss so well. Completely what I needed. Also love how much of this book is women wrestling with what it means to be a woman in a typical male-driven fantasy world.
