DID NOT FINISH: 0%

Soft DNF. I LOVE Bill Bryson’s work, but this one was just a bit…”blah” at the end. I’ll try this one down the road, but it just doesn’t
informative slow-paced

Bill Bryson is like a male Erma Bombeck, but he's traveled a lot more. His tale about the Appalachian Trail is inspiring, and although he didn't finish hiking the trail, few do, and so he's forgiven!
I've wanted to hike the trail since I read about it as a child.
I've also watched the movie version twice, and it follows the book better than most movies to books do.

the first half made me really want to hike the AT but as the book went on I was happy to be not be hiking the trail. with most other factors, like humor, it was a strong start but comparatively weaker finish. def would recommend but also made me sad about how much of our forests are getting destroyed

If you wanted to read a book about someone walking a trail, read "wild".
This book was not so much about walking a trail as it was about the history of the trail and other trivia I was not really interested in.
Personally I would have been more interested if he would have walked it in one go, with less money and comfort. Wasn't that impressed by the entire achievement.

I read this as a recommendation from my coworker at the hospital and it is unlike anything I’ve ever read. It made me laugh a lot, but I wish it was more storytelling and less information dumping. However, I do know a LOT of random facts about the Appalachian trail and national forest service now.
