A beautiful novel of literary fiction that is wistful and full of longing. The relationship between grandmother Mineko and granddaughter Lia is the heart of the book. Can't recommend it enough!

Title: The Turtle House
Author: Amanda Churchill
Review: I liked this book a lot. It was a great in between read for me. I still think about this book every time I see a turtle, hear about a turtle you get the idea. I have always loved Turtles but this brings a new meaning to me. Having been to Japan before, this book makes me want to go back to find a house just like it....in the future. This is a dual timeline book. It's partially set in the Tokyo area of Japan and also In Texas. It gave me a new perspective of how the war affects people in different ways and also what we are told vs. what really happens in certain areas. it also sheds light on how grief and what we think should happen in our lives and how we handle it when it doesn't.
This book follows a young girl Mineko who has a semi rough child hood, her mother wanted certain life and because she didn't' get it she took it out on her child. This shows how Mineko dealt with and found her self and love along the way. It was very heartwarming.
