This was one of my favorite stories as a child. I zipped through it today for a project I'm working on for a class I'm taking, and it was just as delightful and sweet as I remember.

This classic is a treasure that loves life like few books do. Diving headfirst into death like leaping from a hayloft with nothing but a knotted rope for a swing, EB White and his characters acknowledge and grapple with death’s integral role in life.
In a society that increasingly denies or shields its members (especially the youngest among us) from life’s harsh truths, Charlotte’s Web is a potent shot of transcendent reality cloaked in a lovable fable about a girl set against the injustices of life.

2017 - Read aloud to Ben. He says it's his favorite book now.
2014 - The kids and I listened to this audio-book, read by the author. I'm sure I read it as a child, but I didn't remember very much of it. We all enjoyed the story, and I enjoyed the sneaky science the author included. It's on one child's reading list for this school year, so we'll study it in depth later, but I'm glad she got to listen to it before she reads it herself.

I feel kind of bad for not having read this book until now. The writing and the story is beautifully simple, full of love. I highly recommend this book.
It seems unnecessary to review this excellent children's classic. Surely everyone who reads it feels delight in the fun of it and warmed by the philosophy of kindness represented by Charlotte. I like how White puts in a word about the rarity of great writers, and he is certainly entitled. I have this fear that the great Garth Williams cover will be displaced by some horrible version from the terrible-looking live action film.
