Better to approach this as a history fiction that references a lot of queer history that may not be as well known. Pretty dense the writing leaves readers with a lot of hw to further understand the references and images included through out. Though the novel feels very meta and ever experimental, it falls very much in line with the work of Rechy where you’re not really sure if the main character is reliable and yet they’re all we have. Which seems fitting given that the novel makes references to experiments and history that in it of itself may prove hard to pin point

Gave it 3 stars because I liked the premise and really liked the mixed media/blackout poems, but the writing itself was boring and pretentious, and the dialogue unrealistic. Disappointed
