I don’t think this book was for me personally. It was interesting and felt like it was in soft-focus throughout. Overall though I felt disconnected and confused, I ended up DNFing with 30 pages left because I just couldn’t bring myself to finish it.

A beautiful, unusual novel. The uncovering and unspooling of secret queer history alongside emotionally charged meditations on bearing witness to aging and death.

Looking at what I’ve highlighted before I return it to the library (ebook!), I realize that I must have been turning this over in my head: “The release of the want of release” because I remember bringing up something like this in therapy the other day. Now isn’t that something?
