A truly blistering read. I was more emotionally drained by this book than I could have possibly expected, but Torres’ writing is all the better for it. I loved the novel but I probably won’t be returning to it anytime soon for that reason. Devastating in every way, and without respite.

This book was alright. It felt very disjointed and jerky between the fiction part and the true history part of the story. It took about half of the book for me to find the rhythm and settle in. I do wonder if I would enjoy it more as a paper book rather than an audiobook. I’ll probably give it a read on paper in a while because I did enjoy the story.

if you’r queer & literate (a rare combo these days), i cannot recommend this book highly enough.
broke my heart and healed it bigger.
the power of history-shaping thru storytelling.
writing is fresh, new, different. collages included (for those illiterate/15sec attention span).
obscuring truth/fiction, asking if any history telling is ever objective.
