Definitely a bit more of an abstract & artsy read - the sort of thing I could read multiple times and still not fully understand what it is I just read.
It's at times beautiful, at times confusing, weaving real history with fiction in a way that had me doing a lot of googling and re-reading of certain passages. The mixed medium approach with the images and the texts was also a little hard to follow in e-book format (I didn't know there was a glossary of the pictures used until I got to the end, but it would've been difficult to flip back and forth between anyway.)
It's definitely a unique approach to the theme of queer history and how it has/has not been documented, and I would read it again.
"I liked you very much. I wanted to steal your style. You had this kind of sloppiness about you.” “I prefer the term corporeal disregard."
“Darling, the only thing anyone should be embarrassed about is taking themselves too seriously."
"I'd like to live normally in an abnormal way."

This was a little above my comprehension- the plot was interesting as was the modality of the text. The ends has me a bit confused - I’m unsure of what actually occurred and what was a dream.

I love a good researched book. The author obviously spent a lot of time on preparing for this book and weaved together so many historical facts and blurred the lines between fact and fiction. I admire the creativity. I found myself looking up so much stuff to find out what was “real” and what was not. I have never heard of Jan Gay. Enjoyed the photos included that supported the narrative. Reminds me a bit of the book My Government Means to Kill Me.
