It's been a long time since I read the Kane chronicles, and this book reminded me that I should pick them up again (once I finish the Trials of Apollo, of course).
I love that the first story is from Carter's POV because we don't often get to see Percy introduced from someone else's point of view. And Carter being from a different pantheon gives new context to just how weird a demigod would appear from an outsider.
Annabeth in the second story is also a treat. I really enjoyed her wishing she had just gone to Percy's house instead of going to fight a monster with nothing but her architecture books. I always love being in Annabeth's head and seeing her have to think her way out of problems instead of using brute force. And pairing her with Sadie, who is all about brute force is fantastic.
The final story brought all our friends together for one big bad battle, and it was so interesting to see Percy trying to team up with an Egyptian goddess. Reinforcing the idea that being a god is the last thing Percy has ever wanted also was so great. I just finished rereading House of Hades, and I couldn't help but wonder if, after that ordeal, he didn't regret not taking the god's boon.
All in all, I greatly adored this book and will have to reread the Kane Chronicles soon.

Is this foreshadowing for Trials of Apollo? I'm so excited. Fuck. I'm so excited.

I will always love the books in the Percy Jackson series, and I also enjoyed the Kane Chronicles, but this book did not compare to either one of them.
The short stories have a lot less depth than the other stories, they are simpler and take place over much shorter period of time and overall I didn't connect to them as much as the full length books of either of these series.
Having said that, I will always be happy to read anything with Percy Jackson or Annabeth Chase in them, and did enjoy the book, just not as much as the books from either series.
