It was so boring, and the characters weren't compelling. I didn't love them, like them, or even hate them. This is the first Piccoult book that I have DNF'd.

This book reminded me of why I like Jodi Picoult. It didn't have any weird plot twists, but rather just a story exploring complicated relationships.

Jodi Picoult is my fav. author - but this book seemed to drag on far too long without much happening.
If you like horses and horse talk you may enjoy about 150 pages somewhere in the middle.

So everyone in this book is a bad person, pretty much everyone (except the baby of course). It's just they're all insanely selfish and I feel like despite all the crap they go through, no one really learns anything or grows into any better version. I feel like they try so hard to get me to sympathize with them and to root for them and I just didn't do either, I was irritated and frustrated the entire time. I waited for either of them to get any kind of comeuppance and it just didn't happen. I used to be super into Jodi Picoult and she's known for her courtroom dramas, so I will say this at least differed from that, but I think because of it the story lacked any drama or tension. Sure there's family drama I guess, but it was just so obnoxious. I think Nicholas's parents were the only ones who had any kind of interesting arc. Honestly, Picoult has so many books they can't all be winners, and this wasn't the most offensive I've ever read, just incredibly boring full of terrible characters. You can give it a miss.

I love Her books usually. However I was really disappointed with this one. Very predictable and boring.

Paige's mother left her when she was five years old. Now she is a mother herself could she possibly be capable of doing the same thing? She didn't plan the pregnancy and she's having trouble coping which isn't helped by the fact her husband is a busy surgeon, working his way to the top.

I can usually sit down and read a Jodi P in a day, they are so absorbing, however I struggled with Harvesting the Heart. Although it was only published in the UK last year, it is an older work which may have something to do with it. The story starts near the end and then goes back in time which ruins any kind of suspense. We know that Nicholas won't let Paige see her son so we know they got together, they had a child and she ran away all from the get go. The initial relationship between Paige and Nicholas seems a bit cliched, poor teenager leaves home and meets rich, handsome trainee doctor. Hrm.

I liked the idea that when Paige draws she sees an extra side of a person but it sort of disappeared after it had been used as a plot device to get her talking to Nicholas. I understand that she felt like she lost herself in the marriage but felt more could have been made of it. There were lots of bits and pieces that didn't seem to fit and the book was overlong.

It did pick up nearer the end, possibly because it got back to the starting point and the plot was an unknown once more. I think she does the moving back in time better in more recent books.

This was an interesting book. All the characters felt foreign to me. You know how sometimes you read a book and suddenly you feel like you can really relate to the characters? That never happened. All the characters were . . . cold. I don't know how to explain it. Regardless, I kept reading and got hooked. I liked the emphasis on the mother/daughter relationship and how it colors our lives. The ending left me unsettled and unfulfilled though.

Just finished this one. It put me through a lot of conflicting emotions and put me in a place of judgement
