Food critic Hayley Snow and her pal Miss Gloria are overjoyed to welcome Violet and Bettina Booth, aka the Scottish Scone Sisters, to Key West. The sisters will host The UK Bakes!--Key West Edition. But the same day they arrive, the bed and breakfast the sisters are staying in gets torched. Then, someone is murdered. The three elderly ladies and Hayley must search for clues to the brutal murder. But as they draw closer to the answer, the threats from a murderer grow closer too. Are they now in danger of getting baked off?
This was a very delicious cozy mystery full of wonderful eats, a delectable plot, and scrumptious characters. Haley and Miss Gloria are great amateur sleuths who are always looking for a good adventure. I love that Haley works with her police detective husband in solving the crime. My only issue with this story is that it seemed too long, like there were too many details that seemed to slow down the story.

This is book 13 in the Key West Food Critic series. I confess that I have read none of the 12 books that proceed this one, but it was fun to pick up in the middle of the action, and I do love a good murder mystery!

Overall, I very much enjoyed the story! As a foodie myself, I love hearing the descriptions of food and to be able to recreate some of the items mentioned is probably one of the coolest elements of the book. I did notice that the dialogue between characters does fall flat at times. I feel like more time was spent building the story rather than building dimension in characters. I also felt like the ending came on very quickly, and got a little lost in the detail.

I would highly recommend this for an easy beach read, as the Key West setting lends itself perfectly! Perfect for anyone who loves mysteries and cooking!

I would rent α houseboat and head to Houseboat Row tomorrow! - @dupuisshowreads

Another great read to end your summer with - plus, don’t you just love adding books to your summer TBR already?! The characters make this book α fun read and the story itself is α great mystery. I laughed-out-loud for real, not just in my head.

Violet and Bettina Booth are a duo of older Scottish ladies, known as The Scone Sisters, who are venturing from across-the-pond to Key West to promote their baking show. The reader is taken on an adventure as soon as the plane touches down! As soon as the ladies arrive, they find out their B&B is closed and being high season, there are not many options available for housing, so they are hosted on a house boat. When someone ends-up murdered, the characters are ready and willing to lend another set of eyes to the investigation, even if their help is not wanted.

The setting brings the story to life and makes it relatable on many levels, making it easy to envision as you read. The characters are loveable and I was unable to stop reading. I did not know this book is the thirteenth instalment in the Key West Food Critic series. I found the book to work as α standalone and still really enjoyed the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the eARC!

These Key West Food Critic mysteries are a lot of fun. This is one of the cozy mysteries that I have been following along with since the beginning and will continue to as more are published. The setting of Key West is fun and beautiful and the cast of characters that pops in and out from book to book are interesting. Mild romance a little murder and a lot of food!

A CLUE IN THE CRUMBS is the thirteenth book in the Key West Food Critic Mysteries by Lucy Burdette. From the inviting cover that makes you want to jump right in to sample the yummy goodies, to the premise of a TV reality baking show featuring the utterly charming Scottish Scone Sister, I was hooked from the very start. The setting of tropical Key West is described in such splendid detail, with bits of history thrown in, that I felt like I was on vacation myself. I love how the author brought the two Scottish characters featured in her last book, to Key West. They fit right in with protagonist Hayley Snow, and her sidekick, octogenarian Miss Gloria. Ms. Burdette’s characters are what make this series so beloved, and this newest release didn’t disappoint. The core characters are people you’d like to call friends and jump in to assist others when the need arises. This book can easily be read as a standalone, with just enough backstory provided without dragging down the plot.

The mystery itself was multilayered and kept me on my toes as I followed along in the investigation with Hayley and her pals. From a fire that comes close to destroying a local B&B, to the owner of said B&B threatening his talented chef wife competing on the show, to his body being discovered, there are many suspects to consider. Along with that, where did the Scone Sisters’ culinary equipment disappear to and how did their unique knife end up being the murder weapon? And why is their agent ghosting them? And who is sabotaging the baking show? I just adore how Hayley, Miss Gloria, and the Scone Sisters put their heads together to hunt down clues and track down suspects. Together, they make a formidable team. With a thrilling reveal that includes a tiki boat, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happens next. Ms. Burdette has written another terrific addition to her charming series that has me waiting, impatiently, for the next book!

Between entertaining their Scottish guests and the baking show competition, there is yummy food mentioned throughout the story. The author has thoughtfully included several recipes at the back of the book for the home cook to try.

I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What I liked about this book is the behind-the-scenes of how a baking contest was run, the food descriptions, and the Scone sisters were the highlight of the book for me. Now what I didn't like was the actual mystery part of the book because to me it was so predictable I had already figured out who the killer was and that was frustrating to me. Because now I have to finish a book knowing who the killer already is.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the review copy.
I received an ARC and am giving my thoughts my own..

Number 13 wasn't lucky enough for me. I still like the characters, but Key West is a small place to have all these murders ( I know, a recent book in the series was set in Scotland), but I am tired of Hayley always writing restaurant reviews under pressure and the world of food and baking contests. This is a me problem; I love series, but I do get bored by them.

A CLUE IN THE CRUMBS by Lucy Burdette
The Thirteenth Key West Food critic Mystery

Having met them on her honeymoon Hailey Snow is delighted to welcome the Scottish Scone Sisters to Key West. The pair is bringing their UK Bakes! to the states looking for American bakers. There's a fire at their B&B, but Miss Gloria is happy to have them bunk with her. The first day's filming goes well, until the husband of the best contestant storms in demanding his wife leave. It turns out the couple own the B&B that burned. Then the angry husband is found dead and the wife goes missing. Could the Scottish Scone Sister tour end even before it truly begins?

The Key West Food Critic Mystery series joins the world of baking competitions in its thirteenth outing. I absolutely love the Great British Baking Show for its kind competitors, savvy judges, and fantastic bakers. Here we get the funny and genial hosts in the guise of the Scottish Scone Sisters, but the competitors aren't that kind and the bakes not great. Having met the Scottish Scone Sisters in the twelfth book in the series it was great to have them back and learn more about them. They are also integral to the mystery, both in propelling the investigation and solving it!

The mystery itself was compelling. Was the fire related to the murder? Is someone sabotaging the competition? How are the Scottish Scone Sisters involved? Suspicious behavior, conflicting perceptions, and unknown motives combined to create a delightfully complex mystery.

I particularly love the vibrancy and outgoing nature of the older characters. Just because a woman is in her eighties doesn't mean she can't live life to its fullest. Seniors can start new careers and be popular, as seen with the Scottish Scone Sisters. While some may be content to sit back, no one should be put out to pasture just because they've reached a certain age. Miss Gloria, as well as the Scottish Scone Sisters, make me laugh, not only with their antics, but with their joy of life.

Part baking competition, part mystery, all fun, A CLUE IN THE CRUMBS is a delicious addition to the Key West Food Critic Mystery series.
