I really wanted to love this book, but Pearl constantly repeating her mantra “Head before Heart” got REALLY old. All along you know Cord is head over heels in love with her. The premise of the story however is very interesting. Pearl has just stepped into the director’s position at a nonprofit that’s promoting STEM with kids and teens in an under served community.  The other really awesome part of this book are all the side characters, especially Pearl’s sisters and nephew and Cord’s cat and neighbor made for hilarious comic relief. Despite the frustrating back and forth between Pearl and Cord this was an okay romance.

I normally really like Denise Williams books, but I found the lack of professionalism of the two leads so so annoying and how the FMC is all "this didn't work bc I broke my rules" instead of "this didn't work bc we tried something stupid and delulu instead of just being adults"

Something tells me the author has never been camping and has only thought of tents, air mattresses, sleeping bags, and silent campgrounds in the abstract...

Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of second chance romances, but I think I would have struggled with this one even if it wasn’t that trope. I found both Pearl and Cord to be underdeveloped characters and never fully understood their attraction to each other (outside of lust).

I received an advanced copy through Netgalley in return for an honest review.

He's not perfect... but I truly adored Cord.

I listened to this as an audiobook. Maybe I’m just not an audiobook person, but I could not get into this. It also just really annoyed me that what happens at the beginning of the book that has disastrous consequences is the exact same thing that the two main characters do throughout the book and don’t expect the same outcome.
