Graphic true crime but captivating. This is about the first serial killer who used the internet to find victims. It was written around 20 years ago. I was worried it would be dated, and it was in some ways, but overall this held up. Short, quick to read. Horribly sad for the victims and their families in this one.

This book gave me chills and there were chapters I squirmed in my chair. John Robinson used the dawn of the Internet to give rise to his schemes: preying on the innocent, the down-on-their-luck women who just wanted someone to love them (in the right way) and it's hard to read.
The author wrote a captivating story and I struggled to put it down at times. What an amazing and heartbreaking tale.

3.5 Stars…A sobering and horrifying lesson that I wish I was aware of when I was catfished. The sad reality is people can be anyone they want to be on the internet. While this book carries an extremely important message in content, I felt it was presented in an extremely dry and non engaging way. I haven’t read much in the way of true crime so I can’t compare with other books, but I felt there was a large amount of info dump about location history that could’ve been succinctly summed up in a few sentences. It’s an important book, it just could’ve been done with a hundred less pages.

I have now read a handful of Douglas’ novels & have thoroughly been intrigued. Terrified, but wildly intrigued.
I am never interested in the murder aspect, but attempting to understand as to why humans act the way they do. Perhaps this was the most poorly written novel I have read of Douglas’ I just couldn’t fully commit to being engaged. The writing distracted me completely.
Would recommend reading “Mindhunter,” “The cases that haunt us” or “Obsession” as a preferred true crime insightful fix!
