The Eyes Are the Best Part is a fascinating and horrifying tale of a Korean woman's descent into madness. She becomes obsessed with eyeballs, seeing them everywhere, and goes into descriptive detail about them. If you're very easily grossed out by eyeball stuff, this can definitely be a little rough to get through. I'd have to pause a few times and put the book down because I would be so disgusted. But it's also like...I wanted to put it down, but I was still so drawn to the story.

While I did enjoy the book for the most part, I will say I did not like the ending. I won't go into detail about it just yet, but I would say it might be the only thing preventing this from becoming a 5 star. Still a great horror tale, would highly recommend.

WILL DISCUSS ENDING THOUGHTS. DO NOT UNDO SPOILER TAG UNLESS YOU'VE READ IT ALREADY:

My biggest issue with the ending is she kind of gets away scot-free with everything. It seems to be implied that she had all of this planned out from the beginning, maybe? I could be misunderstanding that, but to say that all the evidence would fall on Geoffrey...it feels too unbelievable. And listen, while I hated many of the men she targeted, I dunno if I agree with her getting away with no consequences. I don't know, maybe it's a me thing, but it felt a little too rushed.

Then, on the final chapter, she discusses that she's going to go after her dad. It just...comes off a bit cartoony, like she's the Punisher or a vigilante now. First, she suffers no consequences for what she did, and now she's going to kill her father? All of it felt so rushed and...I guess not fitting for the story? I didn't mind the brain tumor reveal, that was kind of a fun twist. But otherwise, I just didn't vibe with the ending too much. I just struggle to believe that she'd get away with it so easily, let alone that she's now just going to punish her father. It all felt too convenient. Again, great story, but its ending wasn't to my liking.

Okay so where do I start with The Eyes Are The Best Part. Monika Kim really is an excellent storyteller and her writing style was so intriguing and made me feel so suspenseful it actually felt like there was a pit in the bottom of my stomach. I adored this book more than words can say but it also just made me feel so many things all at once it's honestly wild. Also, DO NOT look at the triggers if you don't want to be spoiled.

The book starts off very slow; her getting to her first killing happens at the halfway mark.  After that, there wasn't much killing.

Lots of drama.  Lots of crying.

Not enough horror.

And way too much all men are evil, dirty, dumb little bastards, and I shall bring them to justice.

Honestly, she will get caught very quickly at the rate she is going.

The brain tumor was actually helping quell her blood lust.  Since the doctor removed it, she is now fully unleashed to kill all dudes with blue eyes.  If that's not the case, well, then the brain tumor reveal shouldn't have been included cause the MC's mental state is worse off now than before.

I'm impressed that Ji-won's hatred for men filled the hole in her brain enough so she can neatly tie up all murderous loose ends.  Gotta give the MC props for that.

I wanted to love this, but it didn't quite work. The horror elements felt almost out of place. The characters and their relationships were interesting, but I felt like Ji-Won didn't quite have enough background to her to feel fully realized. I wanted the horror to either lean fully extreme or fully psychological, but the blend of the two just didn't land. I also found the last minute twist that ends up having no real impact quite frustrating. I'd read from this author again, but this one was only okay for me.
