What an education into the world of shipwreck diving! There are only a small number of divers who can dive this deep and this dangerously and this book introduces you to a handful, two in particular. The story of their discovery of a German U-boat off the New Jersey coast is fascinating, insightful, and a real page-turner.

One of the most pleasant surprises I've had while reading in recent memory. To echo another reviewer, I have only a passing curiosity in deep sea diving and I'm not particularly interested in WWII military history. I didn't know anything about U-boats. But despite all of that I was completely taken in by this story of two divers and their efforts in solving this real life mystery. I think anyone who enjoys a good story, with characters who you can root for, will enjoy this book regardless of their fascination with the subject matter. Had it been fiction it still would have made a compelling tale but it being a true-story was really what blew it into the stratosphere for me.

Alexander Dumas wrote "with one hundred and fifty well-chosen books a man possesses, if not a complete summary of all human knowledge, at least all that a man need really know" -- this is one of those books. I picked it as a fun adventure, but by the end, I was profoundly moved by the experience of the human condition, and by the grief and love that spans across lifetimes.
