Read in a day and I enjoyed it
It felt a bit heavy handed at times but it did work and it definitely has an important message
I liked that
candice lee came back at the end because i felt so so bad for her

The ending wasn't what I had expected

Flew through this book - it was very fun and chaotic, though slightly disappointed by the ending.

r.f. kuang does it again. i am a big fan of her works and this is another masterpiece added to the oeuvre. aside from the horror aspect that i enjoyed despite it throwing me off, the themes of loneliness and the distinct problem of racism, prejudice, and bias in the publishing industry was well done.

if only you could see my annotations, it was all me being annoyed at juniper. she is meant to be unlikeable and over the top and i as an asian reader definitely wanted to reach into the book and shake her a couple of times.

Wow, this book was a wild ride! I couldn't put it down and finished it in one day. It's a sharp, cynical satire that dives into plagiarism, racism, and online trolling, all set within the cutthroat world of publishing. The main character, Juniper, is fascinating yet infuriating, driven by a mix of power and insecurity as she takes on her dead friend's identity to publish a groundbreaking book.

Loneliness and the hunger for recognition push Juniper to extreme lengths, making for a gripping and sometimes anxiety-inducing read. The characters, including Juniper herself, aren't saints; they're flawed and complicated, challenging the reader's views at every turn.

This book really messes with your head, leaving you feeling anxious and emotional long after you've finished it. It's a thrilling read that makes you think deeply about fame, power, and the darker side of human nature.
