Read for my Pathographies of Mental Illness class. Good information, but my god was it repetitive. This could have been 50 pages instead of 200.

Conflicting, in one word. Gary Wilson raises some rational arguments but can't seem to provide infallible evidence, instead resorting to anecdotal evidence. It's still an interesting read, and I would definitely rate it higher if the author didn't exhibit a weird anomosity towards pornography in general.

Admittedly, this book raises some valid concerns about Internet Pornography and its impact

this is just your standard low effort evo psych bs because, like everyone knows, we are all wind-up toys. it's basically a bunch of really sad stories, few of them sympathetic, but many are using internet porn as an scapegoat to justify viewing exploitative porn. it's basically 200 pages of that. being suicidal from being into bestiality is actually a very good thing

90/100. More people need to read this. I wish there was more studies in the book but as the author laments, they simply dont exist

It is an exciting read discussing a potentially massive problem. While the science is still being debated on the actual implications that pornography has, it's regardless not good in the long run. In the best-case scenario, it appears to pose risks of unrealistic expectations and awkward situations when it certainly doesn't have to be. Worst-case scenario? An entire generation of men is addicted and numb due to the overconsumption of gross, unrealistic, and alarming content. With the known effects that social media has on society, I can see streaming pornography as certainly harming the mental health of a lot of men, especially on the younger side. It's a solid read. Wilson addresses an issue that seems to be too taboo to discuss, oddly enough.

interesting but i was lacking some better explanation as to what makes porn more addictive than sex. where does the scientific difference lay etc. plus even though the book is filled with exemples from Redditor and it gives us an idea of what it all mean in real life, i found it to be quite biased, and only showing one side of the coin. for exemple by not going deeper at contradicting the opposite claim that porn is not addictive.
however good explanation on the process of addiction, it was clear and it was interesting to see the commonality with excessive porn use.

Good food for thought, albeit the argument seems a bit one-sided
