I really enjoyed how honest, direct, and comprehensive the author was when it comes to wrong this book. However, I felt like the book needed more concrete, extensive research. On the contrary, he already acknowledged that the research on porn is very limited due to ethical concerns and the newness of the novelty. I’m glad he at least put accounts of other guys and their experiences to back up the little research that was offered at the time. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this book and it even inspired me to quit porn myself!

Pointlessly explicit, openly amoral, obsessed with correlative brain scans, and basically ignorant and uninterested in the actual historical and moral causes of things. Mostly serves as a badly formatted collection of the authors favorite reddit comments. Check out the porn myth for a better book on this subject and Libido Dominandi for a deep look into how and why it came about, LD has a great overview of the legalization of pornography and that characters involved that make what porn is much clearer. A shorter book thats similar is The Sexual State.
Cons:
-A lot of Reddit posts. Couldn't really care much for reading a bunch of long posts from people.
-Male-oriented. Does not provide much perspective on female sex addiction. I also did not like that the author instantly assumed that the reader would be male (he kept talking about my erections and how good I'll be at sex with my wife once I quit porn)
Pros:
-Some good tips and insights for people who wish to quit porn
-Opened my eyes to the dangers of pornography.
But this is still a topic that I wish to research more before I actually come to any conclusions on. Gary does not demonize porn or sexual desire but he does acknowledge that the NoFap and Anti-porn movement has some dangerous brushes with conservative, religious, zealous and slut-shaming parties.
I'd probably recommend this book to a male reader. A woman reader might find its lack of inclusivity a little off-putting.

Really informative, speaking as a woman wanting more information and to better understand the side effects of porn addiction, particularly for men.
James Clear in his Atomic Habits says, "Dopamine spikes are more during the craving or the excitement compared to the reward of that action".
Its the same case as in Porn addiction, we all love novelty and it excites us.
We spend a lot of time in finding the right video to get off, rather than focusing on the ejaculation itself.
We love to get pleasured with different kind of porn categories, so we just masturbate with one hand and change between tabs in our browser in other hand.
"Sensitisation, desensitisation, hypofrontality and dysfunctional stress circuits are the phenomena at the core of all addictions", says Gary Wilson in this book
Those who feel addicted to porn, stressed out due to ED, DE and porn-induced sexual disorders, or feel bad about screwing your entire life should definitely give this book a try.

"High speed internet porn is the new smoking" - this quote represents the gist of this book. Currently, the landscape of opinions on internet pornography looks a lot like that of 'Tobacco Wars' in mid-20 century - there are some opponents, but the majority are either indifferent or are actively using it for 'nothing can go wrong'.
The book attempts to educate about the harmful effects of extensive internet porn by correlating the porn usage with overstimulated and therefore 'broken' brain reward circuitry and plethora of anecdotal evidence from various Reddit threads. One of the core concepts outlined in the book is 'rebooting your brain' - abstaining from internet pornography until you notice positive change, all sprinkled with anecdotal cases of forum/Reddit users and generic advice on how to reinforce the abstinence from internet pornography.
Ok read, worth your time, though citing too many reddit threads over and over again in every part of the book and anecdotal nature of evidence have somewhat put me off. Still this could be a great beginning into conducting formal, extensive and long-term studies on effects of internet porn.
Day 10 of no porn challenge concluded, reboot commencing, will see for myself.
