Elle Kennedy brings on the suspense in the second book to her Killer Instincts series, Killer Alias. This book focuses predominately on Luke, the mercenary whose search for a missing DEA agent leads him to the Big Easy and directly in contact with Olivia Taylor, a stripper working in the club the agent was last seen.

This book was definitely as action packed as the first book in the series and definitely helped move the book along. Olivia was forced to strip when she desperately needed money, but she displayed an internal strength despite the difficulties of her current situation. Her chemistry with Luke is off the charts, but there was definitely the instalove (at least on his part) that seems to occur more and more with romance novels. This is a great series to read if you’re a fan of romantic suspense, and there were plenty of action, and there are ongoing secondary storylines and characters that will feed into the other books. This book was reviewed by a member of the review staff at Cocktails and Books. I have a feeling this series is going to become a new romantic suspense fave!

I enjoyed reading about Luke and Olivia's story. I can't wait to read more about this group of guys.

After reading Midnight Rescue, I wanted to keep going and read more about the men and women in this series. Midnight Alias was just as fantastic as MR, maybe even a tad better? This series is really addicting though. After I finished this one, I kept right on reading book three Midnight Games.

Midnight Alias, Killer Instincts #2, by Elle Kennedy
Grade: B-

“The one time he tries to be a gentleman, and what happened? A gorgeous brunette decided to sexually assault him.”

Luke Debois has stared danger in the face many times. First as a Navy SEAL and now as an elite operative for a team that does the work no one else can get done. Luke’s new job is to find an undercover DEA agent who has gone missing but instead he finds Olivia Taylor, student, stripper and the future wife of the crime boss who has the agent. Luke thinks Olivia is the key to solving the case but as he gets to know her he realizes she is innocent and only wants to bring down the entire operation. Luke is now not just fighting for what’s right but for the woman who stole his heart.

Olivia Taylor never thought she would be twenty five and stripping to pay her tuition and her mother’s medical bills. SHe also never thought that her boss, Vince, would do everything in his power to get control over her until he’s made her his wife, willingly or not. When Olivia meets Luke she knows this is the chance to finally get her and her mom somewhere safe and away from Vince but as Olivia uncovers more of the strip clubs secrets she refuses to leave until everything is shut down. Olivia trusts only Luke and his team to take down Vince and his mob associates and she will do everything she can to help make it happen.

Midnight Alias picks up about six months after Midnight Rescue does and we get to jump right back into this crazy squad of sexy military men. I liked Luke right from the start. He’s got that smooth southern laid back charm with a big splash of alpha male which gets my blood pumping. Luke takes a shining to Olivia right away even though he’s very guarded because she’s a stripper and supposedly a mobster’s girlfriend. I liked that Luke and Olivia didn’t have a love at first slight romance and they both took their time to get to know each other and let down their walls.

I wanted to dislike Olivia but I just couldn’t. In the beginning she comes off as weak but towards the end she’s a badass who refuses to let women be used and hurt. I didn’t think she would be strong enough for Luke but she proved me wrong and I’m so happy she did. I do wish that these two had a little more time to get to know each other better but all in all I enjoyed their story.

There is a lot going on in this book but for some reason the story lagged a bit around page two hundred. I had a very hard time wanting to keep reading but I’m very glad I did because the last seventy pages are awesome. I’ve mentioned before I’m not a big military romance person but the Killer instincts series is one that I will always read. I love that you get to know all of the men in the group so it makes you want to know each one of them so much and get inside of their heads to see what’s going on. I cannot wait for Trevor and Isabel’s story which I have been waiting for since book one!

This book was a lot better than the first one. Namely, because it had a lot more intrigue. Luke and Olivia's story really drew me in and made me connect with the characters. It wasn't especially unpredictable. The POVs were similar to the previous story, with including many other characters beyond the main two characters. It provided an interesting extra layer to the story, however there was also a little flaw with it, for me. The POVs (yet again) featured a lot of Trevor and Isabel and their growing relationship. It was interesting, but very dissatisfying since there was no conclusion for their story. It looks like that conclusion will have to wait for the next book. Derek aka "D" was also given a little more (though very small) "screen-time". In this book he was a lot angrier, with a bigger chip on his shoulder. He started acting reckless on missions and was sent back to the team's homebase, so he didn't end up sabotaging anything. At one point, though, Olivia confronts him and his rudeness by bringing up a dated tattoo, that no one else has noticed, and she asks if it's the anniversary of whatever is bothering him so much. So D has something in his past that is eating away at him more and more, or perhaps it is just what happens as the anniversary grows near.

I don't know what it is but every time i get to know D a little bit more, the more I like him a lot more :)

Anyway this book was crazy the main bad guy is obsessed with the main girl Olivia, and she hates his gutts.

I have also noticed that the main characters in all the books are damaged in some way or another and i find that pretty cool and love find out how it happed and them finally breaking free from the passed.

I don't know if a like Noelle because she bugs the hell out of me but i hope in future she can change my mind.

I am just plugging right along in this addictive series! If you loved Elle Kennedy’s writing in THE DEAL and THE MISTAKE, and you love novels with seriously badass former military men who are tasked with protecting and loving their women, read this series. In this second novel, we get Luke’s story where he’s tasked with getting close and gaining intel from Olivia, the bad guy’s girlfriend. Thus ensues danger, lust, love, and heart-racing suspense all with the fantastically easy to read writing we know and love from Ms. Kennedy. We also (*jump up and down*) get back into the heads of Trevor and Isabel who we also know pretty damn well as their story unfolds too.

Olivia, known as Livvy Lovelace on the stage, has had to bust her ass for a long time. With a sick mother, who keeps getting sick, her dreams of finishing college, and a growing amount of debt, all she’s ever done is work. Without a father in the picture, Olivia has taken over the head of the household role since she was old enough to drive. That predicament has her in her current situation–under the debt of a bad, bad man. She’s scared, she’s trapped, and she has no way out. She’s always done whatever is needed to protect and care for her mother, but it’s left her vulnerable to attack. It’s also made her susceptible to Luke who she knows she needs to avoid. He comes in her life out of nowhere, an apparent random encounter, and shakes everything up. I admired Olivia’s strength, for carrying the heavy load of working herself too much and providing care for her ailing mother. She’s living the true meaning of “doing whatever it takes” for her family, and it was an amazing quality to have. She was also naive and a little short of common sense in certain situations, but overall a resilient female heroine.

Luke has taken the lead on watching over this particular club for their recon. It’s in this club that he’s completely enamored and amazed just by the sight of her. A self-professed bachelor, he’s never allowed himself even the chance to feel something for a woman other than sex, but something about her pulls him in. Unfortunately, she’s in a bad situation and he’ll have to do everything he can to protect her from things she doesn’t realize are happening around her as well as get close to her as a part of his job. And he’ll have to realize that there’s more to life worth living than just the job. This Cajun charmer is going to be slayed by the hard-working beauty. For being a man who claims he can’t love, his instincts clearly came from somewhere deep because that caring, protective nature came out immediately when he was around Olivia. And you could tell why he became a SEAL as that protective instinct was a core trait he was born with. Smart, gentlemanly, and lethal…exactly what’s needed of a badass.

This clearly is a five-star novel, but I did take away a slight half tick because Olivia had this strong urge to make irrational choices in situations that everyone would see as a situation where you should never make irrational choices. That’s human nature, clearly, but it did make me want to step through the screen and tell her to be safe and smart, damn it. Sometimes the strongest heroines make what they consider to be selfless choices that really end up being unsafe for herself and those around her. It did not, in any other way, inhibit my love for this book, as I truly enjoyed the story line. The writing reeled me in and kept me there for hours. I loved the intricate plot web that had us traveling down one road, then another, and then another. We got to see both sides of the story from the good guys to the bad guy, allowing a full view of the suspense coming. And I just want to keep reading this series without doing anything else because I just love them. Highly recommend you start this series today.
