Extremely predictable if you’ve read any of Cass’s other works, but comfy and enjoyable nonetheless!

I absolutely loved the book, especially the dynamic between the different characters and how their relationships develop. It is beautifully written and it was rather easy to create an image of the entire world in your head.

The only thing that keeps me from giving this book five stars is the fact that Lennox killed Annika's mother and everyone seemed to be quite okay with it rather quickly.

Otherwise it was absolutely perfect!

The love interest killed the main characters mom and they’re supposed to fall in love?? That’s horrible. I have been trudging through this because it’s boring but I made it to page 142 and then this gets revealed. I haven’t enjoyed much of the book so I’m quitting now. That is literally the worst start of a love story I have ever read that is horrible. This book is so bad.

What a great read! Of course, it's no Selection, but really, what is? "A Thousand Heartbeats" is a great YA story and I loved the enemies-to-lovers and how they became lovers. The ending was a bit too mainstream for me but still a solid 4 stars!

I started the year with Kiera Cass and 169 books later, I finished the year with Kiera Cass.

This book was a great mix of political intrigue and an adorable enemies-to-lovers romance! Like any good enemies turned lovers, there were plenty of sword fights and verbal assaults that led Annika and Lennox (names I really like for these characters) to fall in love in a truly magical way. I think the way this book described love was fascinating way too look at love, as more like a sound that envelops a person.
I love Kiera Cass’s writing, so this book was a great way to end 2022.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins, and Kiera Cass for providing me access to this book.

“Love has a sound. It sounds like a thousand heartbeats happening at the same time.”

I enjoyed the premise of this book, but I feel like so much more could’ve been done. I would’ve liked for this to be a duology so that we could have more worldbuilding and background on the history of this love because that was one of the most interesting parts to me. I think going more in depth with the history of these countries would’ve made the conflict and relationships more complex. I liked Annika and Lennox but I never felt like they truly hated each other or were really enemies. There were a lot of plot devices that didn’t make sense to me and some character motivations that weren’t very logical. Just little things that left small wholes in the plot. I also think the writing suffered a little from being too direct and simple. I know it’s a YA book, but it felt a little too YA. Overall, I enjoyed reading this I just wish it did more.
