brucethegirl's review against another edition
extremely juvenile writing in addition to a constant lack of follow through. A lot of implications for worse, but never delivering. It was implied for a number of pages that the lead was disabled, but hiding it. But she just had injuries that eventually heal fine, and it is later revealed her father caused them. The parents who exhibit abusive behavior are consistently presented as just "going through it". Just overall felt like I was being lied to and not given what I was promised early in the book.
Moderate: Emotional abuse and Physical abuse

I started the year with Kiera Cass and 169 books later, I finished the year with Kiera Cass.
This book was a great mix of political intrigue and an adorable enemies-to-lovers romance! Like any good enemies turned lovers, there were plenty of sword fights and verbal assaults that led Annika and Lennox (names I really like for these characters) to fall in love in a truly magical way. I think the way this book described love was fascinating way too look at love, as more like a sound that envelops a person.
I love Kiera Cass’s writing, so this book was a great way to end 2022.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins, and Kiera Cass for providing me access to this book.
