I honestly think this is the first trilogy where every book has been a five star read for me. I loved Rebel of the Sands as an opening to the story, Traitor to the Throne managed to be a really interesting middle part, with enough action and plot that it never felt boring, and Hero at the Fall never failed to keep my interest.
I will say that it took me a while to finish reading this, but that’s more to do with me not having the time to read than an fault with this book.
I love Amani as a character - she’s a really powerful person but she has a lot of flaws and insecurities that I think still makes her relatable and easy to understand. She really cares about her friends and the rebellion is clearly important to her, so it was interesting to see how she copped with the loss of the majority of the rebellion for the first half of the book, with the loss of her friends.
The one thing I wish we saw more of in this book is the Sultan. He was such a huge presence in the second book and he was barely even see in this one. It would have been interesting to see a little more of what was going on in the palace, but I understand that this is all from Amani’s view and she wasn’t there.
As for the POV in the book, as most people probably know at this point, I hate first person narrative. It really gets on my nerves for reasons I don’t actually understand, they just do. Alwyn Hamilton manages to write first person in a way that makes me forget its first person at all, and I’d only remember again when I picked up from where I left off on a different day. I know i’m enjoying a book when the first person doesn’t even bother me anymore, because i’m too engrossed in the story.
The rest of the characters in this book were again really great. I especially love Jin and Shazad, who have been some of my favourites throughout the series. As well as that, Sam was way better this book, and I really loved what we saw of Hala as well.
As a whole, I loved this book, and I’m so sad that this series is over. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

It goes with out saying that dijin stories bave very quickly become some of my favourite to consume. The magical atmosphere in this story and the series overall is so beautiful and special that I love.

Amani, easily one of the best YA female protagonists and it’s a shame that people don’t talk about her more. Such a well rounded character who just keeps growing and growing and it’s been a pleasure to be a part of that journey with her.

The cast of side characters are also incredible with fleshed out motivations and personalities that hold strong on their own.

I truly loved this book because I just did not know what kind of decisions Amani was going to make, and what the turn out would be. Hamilton wrote this in a way that anything was pretty much game and that’s what kept me at the edge of my seat in the last 30% of the book.

Im so sad that I’ve reached the end of such a fantastic series

Could have been 100-200 pages shorter, though the ending felt kind of rushed…
