Cute story! From an author who's written Hallmark and Netflix movies.

A Lifetime book written by a Lifetime movie script writer. If that's your thing, this book is for you. I received in my Once Upon a Book Club subscription box and read it. Easy reading. Sappy, romantic. Perfect for Christmas Time. The author wrote the Netflix movie "A Christmas Prince". I just might go and watch it.

Hard-hitting investigative journalist and well-known Grinch, Kaylie Karlyle, finds herself unemployed the week before Christmas. She’s offered a secretive freelance job which turns out to be writing a Christmas fairy tale for the incredibly private royal family of Tolvania. Will she find a story to get her career back on track or something that ends up being far more important, like love?

So I did enjoy this. It was a fun, cheesy romance reminiscent of the many romantic holiday movies released en masse at the end of every year. The characters and plot weren’t terribly deep and the plot was predictable, but it was fun and lovely and did exactly what it was supposed to.

A royal Christmas is a lot like the hallmark movies you see around Christmas time, just in book form. The storyline is lighthearted and entertaining enough. I really like the way Christmas traditions were the center of everything.

The downside of this story is that it was very predictable and its a lot like the prince meets reporter themed story I've seen done a lot. I wish it was a little less predictable. It is enjoyable though in its own cute way.

There isn't a large character base for the story and it felt like more was going to happen with the side characters introduced so I felt like that may have made it more interesting. But the main characters were pretty likeable.

Overall this is just a typical Christmas story which is great if your wanting something light, fast and fun for the holiday season. Definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a quicker read during the busy season but wanting all the Christmas charm.

I received an advanced copy through netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

This book reminded me from the beginning of a hallmark movie. You have the push, pull and the misunderstanding., you have love, fun and a spunky princess and queen. I loved the princess she spoke her mind and never filtered anything coming out of her mouth which made her such a sweet honest girl. The queen was also fun because she wanted what was best for her family but she also felt like the most loving person to everyone around her. Kaylie seemed like she knew what she wanted in her heart but it seemed her heart and head just didn't match up. I was not a huge fan of Alex why I understood his need to be cautious but he just came off like a jerk. Over all this book was a clean read and it was fun and really puts you in the Christmas spirit for sure.

A cute Christmas read. Cheesy at times, but it had a piece of magic with the royal family and Christmas village. Definitely the perfect holiday read.

A Royal Christmas Fairy Tale - Karen Schaler

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and HawkTale Publishing and I am leaving this review voluntarily

A charming Christmas village, a storybook castle, a royal ball, and a gorgeous prince are the last things New York City reporter Kaylie Karlyle expects to find on her holiday freelance assignment to Europe. But when the family she’s interviewing turns out to be the royal family of Tolvania, Kaylie has a meltdown when the quirky queen wants her to write a Christmas fairy tale for the spunky, young princess. Kaylie must battle the princess’s father, who doesn’t trust the media, and her own insecurities about writing anything beyond the news.

This is a feel-good Christmas book, similar to a story you would find in a Christmas film. It highlights the importance of Christmas traditions and how even the smallest thing can be used to build family memories.

A magical Christmas read that will easily get you in the mood for the holiday season. It's difficult to not give too much away about this beautiful story but I do feel the need to point out that at the end there is the added bonus of delightful recipes.

It does what it sets out to do, which is a light and cute, cheesy, feel-good Christmas story.

I enjoyed it and couldn’t stop reading once I started, which meant the pacing and length were good, and that it’s overall good enough to keep my interest like that.

The writing was very repetitive though, and felt unnatural too. The plot and minor twists were also very predictable. There’s also Kaylie always saying or doing the wrong things and that was pretty embarrassing and annoying to read about. I’m on the prince’s side whenever he wanted to kick her out, haha.

Still, it’s a nice story. I saved this to read right before Christmas and that was the right choice because this is the most Christmassy Christmas book to ever Christmas (that I’ve read anyway, I’m sure the author has more). It’s also good for if you’re burnt out on heavier books.
