“But just as every ARMY story is the same, every ARMY story is unique.” – this is wonderfully illustrated in this collection of personal essays by women who are part of the ARMY fandom of the K-pop group BTS. I wasn’t actually a huge fan of Eaglehawk’s chapters (there were some parts that didn’t quite sit right with me...), but I really enjoyed reading about the experiences of the other eight ARMYs.

There are common threads that pop up in each essay and when you hear from various BTS fans in general. For example: BTS comes into your life when you need them the most; loving the group starts you on a journey to self-love; they inspire you to bring about positive change in the world, etc. It was really interesting to see how people’s personal experience of being a BTS fan intersects with other aspects of their life and identity, and I really appreciated there being a range of voices in this book, from Muslim women, Taiwanese American women, women in academia, and so on. BTS has a global and hugely diverse fan base, and I’m glad to see that reflected in this collection!
