The Choice

Nicholas Sparks

I've read almost all of Nicholas Sparks' books and this is probably my least favorite. The characters fell in love too quickly in the beginning that it was hard to believe. The second part of the book was a good twist but overall I think the story was just too short to be fulfilling in any way.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I would like to discuss the book if anyone has read the book.

I love Sparks! So good! The romance and realistic nature had me hooked and tugged my heartstrings immensely.

How far would you go for love? Is the question I was left with after finishing this book. While it started of confusing and then later on, frustrating because of what the characters did (you’ll find out), it turned into something heartwarming that will pull on every one of your heart strings ( if you’re a romantic). It will give you hope that true love exists but it isn’t without its challenges.

This book by Nicholas Sparks left me so wanting... I guess if you want mindless boy-meets-girl-who-has-hang-ups-and-then-life-works-out-like-a-f*$%ng-fairytale that reads like most of his other books then go ahead and pick it up. However, if you want a book that was written thoughtfully with some actual research put into it then I don't recommend it. The book is supposed to be about the choice of a husband to take his wife off life support or not and yet it gets sort of thrown in at the end. The bulk of the book is about the one weekend when they met and how they fell in love and ended up together - which actually sucked because the female lead character was really a little harlot who cheated on her long-time boyfriend and ends up sleeping with the male lead character after only a couple of days? Come on, Sparks, what do you take us for? The second part of the book, which starts about 2/3 of the way in and is supposedly what it is about, is so jumbled and confusing that you don't even know what has happened or what the struggle is supposed to be; almost like it was thrown in as an afterthought so he could have a new title and a new book to market. And let's not forget the blatant evidence of not having done a bit of research for this book that can be summed up by the little "Aztec ruins in Cancun" reference. Hello! They are Mayan ruins, not Aztec! The ending is so unrealistic from both a medical and a personal perspective that I found it insulting. Definitely not something I would bother with unless you are a super duper Sparks fan. Personally, I like my fantasy to be labeled as such.

This was so close to a 1 star for me. I really should just go to the library and get some decent books instead of just reading whatever is left on my kindle.

I've read a couple of Sparks books, and they are quite formulaic, and too sweet and perfect for me. Although, in this book, I was surprised she was cheating on her boyfriend, which just didn't sit well with the rest of the books feel.

Typical Nicholas Sparks: makes you believe in and long for true love, breaks your heart, and then restores your faith. Good, quick read.

Not his worst, not his best.

This is your typical run-of-the-mill Nicholas Sparks novel. Nothing too crazy stuck out. Story ends the same as the rest. It was a nice light read for a filler book. Would recommend this for beach reading.
