The premise of the book is very compelling. The execution was ok for me. Some parts I couldn’t even tell what was happening or found it difficult to imagine visually what was happening. Maybe I’m just not familiar with the lingo/landscape. Or maybe my doomscrolling is ruining my brain.

While this isn't my usual genre, I'm glad I read this book by Indigenous horror luminary Stephen Graham Jones. I felt connected to some characters more than others, so the pacing felt a bit off sometimes. Definitely a slow build, but once I got into it, the writing was compelling and visceral.
